Is "3121" "Days of Wild"?

I mean did Prince and Michael and Sonny actually get together or did Prince use the drums and bass from DoW as the basis for this track?

This song definitely reminded me of 'Days of Wild'. Sounds like a funky show-opener tune to me. When I saw P in '97 he opened with 'Days of Wild' and commenced to ignore all the work he had done in the previous 10 years to play older songs. Go figure.

[EDIT]

BTW I bet this song was recorded around the time Days of Wild was layed down. It would explain why Sonny T is on it and the similar sound.

It doesn't remind me of Days of Wild at all, well, maybe some of the vocals, and vocal effects...

the machine-like trudging rhythm is like "Days of Wild", the effects are like "Dream Factory"

Yes, they got together. Michael B confirmed that they did a session with Prince back in October when the druma and bass was laid down for 3121. And he didn't notice the similarity with DOW's drumbeat.

i really don't hear this at all. i listened to them both back2back
several times and i just do not hear it at all.

how do people come up with this stuff? if anything it vaguely does
resemble, it's the songs on "The Undertaker"

It doesn´t really resemble Days Of Wild, but some of the later incarnations of that song ( ca. 2002-2004) had a bit of a similar beat....as Metalorange pointed out, even Michael B didn´t hear the resemblance, so it´s not that big really.

come on Days of WIld is class ...3121 is totally cack. it's teh most bizzare opening track for an otherwise pretty cool album.

The lyrics are like a poem written by a school kid and the music doesnt sound finished.

Perhaps it will grow on me in time because,as I say, it sounds so out of character for the rest of the album (quality wise) but at teh mo I just dont get it at all

i agree with you that it sounds completely out of character with the
rest of the album. it's like it doesn't even belong to this album...

however, i disagree with the song being inferior to the rest of the
cd. to me, this is probably the best song on there lol.

hey, tastes differ. all i can say is that i hope you will 1 day like
it as much as i do. i absolutely love love love it.

I'll keep puping it in my ears until I get it.

Ive managed to ruin Lolita for myself too....in the UK their used to be a kids cartoon called Family Ness (about the Loch Ness monster etc).

The theme tune went along the lines of "no you'll never, no you'll never ever, no you'll never, ever, ever se a Nessy in the zoo"

guess what I hear every time the "you'll never ever, ever make a cheater out of me!!!" comes on

I agree, it is very different to the rest of the album, in fact I played it to my brother who isn't a fan or anything and he said, "It's very retro. Is it an old song?" Many people on here thought it was an old vault track.

But I like it's oddity on the album - certainly one track on the album that is aimed more at the old school fans, I think.

It is in the same genre or style as days of wild but definitely
not the same as days of wild, i think, has much more energy,,,
however, 3121 is still a jam and when i pump it up loud in my car
as I drive home from work, I get pumped!...especially in the middle of
the song when he says"its goin down people, like the wall of berlin, and the
horns kick in.....this track is one of his best album openers...keep listening
all you purple people, it only took me about 3 listens to 'get it'...

Days of Wild? NO, reminds me of the beat from I WONDER. The rest of the song sounds totally different.

"3121" seems like a hybrid of several songs to me. It has the heartbeat of "Days of Wild", the voice of "Dream Factory" and the soul of "1999". It may be the best song Prince has released in the past 10 years.
