Jukebox with a Heartbeat????

"Who got the brand new hit in Los Angeles...not me...I aint givin up fees....If it's popular it aint free..."

This track should've been put on 3121. With prince seemingly so concerned w/ popular success -- how can he justify this song? Or was that song simply justifying his popular lack of success.

slightly off the topic. I love this song...it's funky. Just wish it had a cooler beat...other than that, it is funk infested.
"I have a date with Lisa. Isn't that wonderful?"

This the why you don't hear Prince on the radio and MTV. He is NOT paying the money for that.

man, we have diluted the meaning of funk if that songs qualifies as funky. that song is closer to standard pop than it is funk.

just because Prince wrote it and the lyrics are anti-mainstream does not meake the song funky.
this message brought to you by logic.

Maybe he's using the term "free" in the sence or artistic freedom, not free to hear. Artist that get popular on the radio are persuaded as to how the songs should sound and are not free to express themselves however they want.

hahaha -- I agree; I'm not going out searching for purple bananas anytime soon, but this song is a little too explicit and direct not to be taken literally. I'll give the man some contradictions, but we can't go saying this song was a series of metaphors.
