I know I saw that and was like Can Beck even be as endearing funny or funky as Prince? Never You evidently haven't listened to much of Beck's music. I realize the majority on this site will be biased towards Prince but I just had to comment on your comment: those familiar with Beck's catalog of music know that yes, Beck can most definitely be as endearing, funny and funky as Prince when he wants to. He's proven it. [Edited 4/1/06 23:42pm]

Here's the Amazon quote in question:
"Add 3121 to the mounting pile of evidence: Prince is the black Beck. He's a whole lot sexier, no doubt, but there's more to both musicians than image. All-out weirdness for one. Edginess for another. And a fine-tuned sense of how to combine the two to create some of the decade's most vital music for a third." I'm not sure exactly what about the general statement that both Prince and Beck have more to them than just image or that they're both rather weird and edgy, is causing people problems. In fact, it's my opinion that if one finds the general comparison of Prince and Beck - and I'm not comparing individual careers, career achievements, or any song-by-song analysis, btw - to be so mindboggling, then maybe one is proving that reviewers point (about Beck anyway): that Beck has way more going for him than somebody who is only familiar with his stoner, "loser" image (and/or a few songs they've heard on the radio) would think. Beck IS edgy, he IS weird -- and he also IS very talented and much, much more musically diverse than non-fans realize. And , how many times around here have I seen people bitch and gripe about people unfamiliar with Prince bashing on him or not giving him the credit he deserves because they only 'know him from Purple Rain', or not seeing past his weirdo image or the makeup or the high heels? It's the same thing with Beck -- many aren't aware of just how talented and diverse he is because they haven't listened to much of his music, or they only know him from his slacker image and the few songs of his they've heard on MTV. It's true that Prince and Beck do both know how to combine their weirdness and edginess to create interesting sounds and sometimes hard-to-define music. It's no secret that Beck is a Prince fan, and that Prince is a musical influence for him. Beck's 'Midnite Vultures' album proved that. And James Brown was obviously an influence on Prince. So what if someone compares Prince and Beck now? In some ways they've sounded similiar...but I think in this case the comparison was refering to something MORE than merely sound: I think the comparison was more regarding Prince and Beck's musical personalities and their basic way of creating and presenting their music, which I think is a VALID comparison. Hey Dont be dissin Beck cause some reviewer said Prince is like Beck.
Beck has made some fun kick ass albums. And Sea Lost is an amazing tour de force. Beck has numerous times given props to P. And if you dont know who Beck is, then you need to do some shopping. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I know Beck is a talented artist,no disrespect here.
But it's kinda strange 2 put it that way because P influenced Beck, not the other way around. Love4oneanother
