Hi,

I was just sitting here thinking about how it looks like everytime prince performs he has sheila E on the percussion. They have been friends for such a longlongtime. I believe that he respects her as a musician and as a personalfriend.
What do u think has made sheila E and prince's relationship last for such a looooonng time? Sheila E's relationship with prince has out lasted many other relationships that prince had with former bandmembers,musicians,music producers, engineers, managers,wives and girlfriends.Half ofthese people he doesnot even deal with any more.

I realize thatshe has a strong alegiance to prince and she makes no doubt about it.She has always made it clear that if it was not for god and Prince she would not have been where she is at today.
Whenever he needs her, she is always there;0)

So what do you guys and gals think?

I don't know...but I do recall they had a falling out for several years. Her 4th Paisley Park album was shelved and she once made a comment that she couldn't step foot back in his recording studio, IIRC. This comment may have been made around the time of her Sex Cymbal album...

i do agree w/ u though...she is very important to Prince. like u said...he's also called upon her and it's very obvious 2 c when Prince is "through" with a musician.

I think it's cuz she adores him and respects him alot. But also I think Prince might see a little of himself in her. Like she comes off kinda shy and quiet at first but she's really not, she's talented like he is, they probably agree alot on spirtuality and have a love of God. I don't know personality wise she kinda seems like a female Prince. They just must have an understanding of eachother.

I hope Prince will release on dvd their cover of "you've got a friend" live at the 2002 celebration, it's beautiful.

Having Prince back you is a double edged sword....you get recognised but the second he stops flaunting you to HIS fans you are done...Ingrid Chavez, Tevin Campbell,Cat,Miko, Jill Jones,TC Ellis and I have a sneaks suspicion,despite being one of the most talented Prince spin-off, Tamar will be old news very soon too.

Of course she was known before the SignOTimes/Lovesexy era, hell, she released
"The Glamorous Life" in 1984 an album in which Prince wrote most songs...so that is how she got well known, but again, it was because of P. She is a helluva drummer and is well respected in the music industry for her craft. But she will always be associated w/P as he wrote most of her hits. Plus she even took on his look and sound back in 84-85, the whole hair/dress style.
I think it is great that they are still friends after all this time.

I remember reading in a "Where Are They Now"? issue of People (2002?) that Shelia and Prince were supposed to get married in 1988, but she said he couldn't commit. (also being with Susannah and Cat probably didn't help matters either). She said Prince came back into her life after she was breifly ill. Glad to see that they're still cool.

... but seriously, I think Prince has trusted Sheila over the years with directing his band for soundchecks, appearances, etc... her loyalty in not blabbing to the media... but mostly it seems like he has always respected her awesome talent from the start.

It still proves that he is not a JW anymore. Why would he stick with a non-believer so long?

She's a GREAT MUSICIAN as is he. They work well together SINCE they KNOW EACH other. She has COPIED his STYLE and he has USED her MUSICIANS/FRIENDS for his Band. I think she has OVERLOOKED/FORGIVEN IN ORDER to STILL B with him. HOWEVER, I think he sees her NOW as MERELY a GOOD FRIEND/COLLIEGE NOT LOVER. I think that SUITS her QUITE FINE as she is INDEPENDENT and SUCCESSFUL ON HER OWN and THIS is a WONDERFUL THING. I think she is a STRONG WOMAN and VERY COOL, BUT DEFINITELY JEALOUS and COMPETITIVE .....

I KNOW for a FACT she is JEALOUS when OTHER WOMEN are LOVING ON PRINCE. But, I really ADMIRE her as a MUSICIAN and think she is REALLY TALENTED . Plus she looks Great and is not in those CELEBRATION FARTY CLOTHES and Flats. She is SEXY again which I like. I was hating her and Prince's look at CELLY 2002 . Made them look OLD and I felt OLD for liking them. I always want Prince SWINGING and FREAKIN....LOL....

Rosie Gaines and Boni Boyer(RIP) are/were phenomenal vocal talents, its the direction and choice of material i guess.

you know what as well, sheila is a backing vocalist and drummer really, shes done stuff herself but she'll never outshine him or hog the spotlight, only compliment what he does.

Considering that she made several appearances on the ONA tour, this theory doesn't hold water. JWs are allowed to be friends with people outside their denomination. Heck, at the start of his studying with the JWs, he was bringing Chaka Khan and Doug E Fresh on tour with him, both of whom are Scientologists. Several members of his recent bands have not been JWs (in fact, the only one I know for certain in his ONA/Musicology tour band was John Blackwell).

I have a few JW friends myself, and they don't seem to have a problem with me not being a member of their denomination. They have no ban on associating with "outsiders".
