One intro that I am still digging:

"1+1+1=3"

Very moody, eerie, stuff going on (even the "Darth Vader" voice adds to it), then the drum slowly and quietly kicks in, and then comes that killer, wicked bass line. A fantastic intro that just creeps up on you and before you know it you are grabbed.

The "1+1+1=3" intro really reminds me so much of The Doors' "The End."

This one really gets me every time. I just CAN'T listen to this song without rewinding at least once to hear that bass come in. It's just so fonky. Good pick.music

I presume they are refering to the Alarm Clock ringing at the beginning of Strafish and Coffee.....Used to wake me up too !!! lol

I like so many intro's I couldn't list them all.

Top of my head:

Dinner with Delores - Love the guitar
17 Days - Just so cool
Purple Rain - Because it is unmistakeble
The Ladder - Wierd but so cool
Condition of the Heart - Can't explain why I do

Plus so many more...

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

COMPUTER BLUE

I am currently experiencing the 83 First Avenue concert over and voer again and the live intro of that version is amazing.

Just that beat, then Prince announcing the song; "This song is called Computer Blue"

Remember; the studio version was not released until 84 and this was it's FIRST live outing. Amazing. Gives me goose bumps again and again

I love that version and that whole concert. One of my favorites, I spin that version ALL the time. The version of Electric Intercourse he played that night is immense as well.

sorry I had to post twice, because the intro to "17 days" is one of the greatest intros I've ever heard on any song period.

17 Days! The intro is better than the song. I always tell me son that's what I'd choose as my themesong if I were a professional baseball player. The intro would just be enough to get you to the plate. And everyone would say "What song is THAT?"

Course I'm a 47-year old woman, so my chances are slim and, well, none.

The first time I heard 17 days I was walking home from school in the 7th grade and this shitkicker/Hell's Angels type with like an 8 inch beard on a Harley was stopped at the light by the railroad tracks and he was playing 17 days so loud I could hear it over the Harley engine.

Unforgettable.

Of course, there's When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy and Bambi, etc., but can I get some love for "Shhh''! Have you ever heard a slow song start off with such ENERGY!
Break it down, nah!
