The Dance is great, but come one now... Prince has screamed a hellalot since 1984. Hasn't really stopped actually.

"The Dance" scream is funny and pathetic to me. I guess Prince is going for desperation and high drama but it feels mannered, put on. And the bassline sounds like "The One," which is a bad sign.

i like, and have fun screaming along to, the dance's scream ending. that said, it certainly does not have the intensity or sincerity of the beautiful ones' scream. there's no doubt that's what ol' boy was going for but...that's the problem...when you try for something - when its artificial - it comes off sounding as such.

i like the dance but i'm missing what all the fuss is about over the track.

I LOVE the screaming and the clapping in The Dance! P is the best screamer and it always gives so much extra passion to his songs! Aaaawwwww.....

I just dont get all that "back to his old sound" stuff about 3121.

If by that they mean he's not putting out half-baked stuff like ONA or 'experimental' stuff like TRC then fair enough....but I would say he's just putting out a proper album.

If they mean that he has an old sound back then Im not so sure - peopel bang on about it sounding like Prince of the Purple Rain era but I struggle to hear anything that is a direct link to that period.

If I had to pinpoint 'retro' Prince in there I would say that bits of Lolita sound Sign O The Times(ish) ie "Fella's, how bad is this Girl?" Vs "Fellas, come here - look!!! Brookes tell me what that it - do you want her,no no no do you WANT her" from Hot Thing live.

But apart from that Id just say its Prince.

One thing that does baffle me is that he's alway banging on about how much music today relies on computers etc.....3121 is absoloutely drowning in drum machines. Sure we all know he CAN and WILL play it live but why not lay it down with real instruments?

Listen to the albums For You, Prince and Controversy then I think you might see the real comparisons smile

Hmmmm Controversy maybe...but not so much a sound as an edgy attitude

For You and Prince? Im Yours from For You maybe has that upbeat feel that tracks like Get On The Boat have. The Prince Album, for me had some of Prince best slow songs on, I just WISH that 3121 cam close to these.

But teh question is - is he delving back or has he just trimmed the self-indulgent fat, stopped trying to be 'clever' and thought - this vibe comes naturally to me so thats what I'll do.

Between you and me I have teh feeling over the last few years that he was trying to recapture that Genius tag by being different
