Ummmmm NO! With that said, MJ needs to listen to 3121 so that it'll make his ass make good music again, something he hasn't done since 1991. Shame on Michael Jackson.

I am a fan of both MJ and Prince.

As an MJ fan, I can tell you that as early as 1987 MJ starting copying Prince a bit stylistically. MJ was wearing longer hair, heavier makeup, and also tried to toughen his image up. Look at his performance in "Dirty Diana" and tell me that he wasn't influenced by "Darling Nikki".
Also, in the film "Moonwalker" Michael is puzzled by the fact that his chimp is wearing a Prince shirt. To top it off it was Michael Jackson's people that went to Prince to get him to be in the "Bad" video.

Then on 1991's "Dangerous" MJ started aping Prince's sound a bit. Listen to the instrumentation during the rap on "Black or White". Nowhere is Prince's influence over MJ more blatant than in the song "Why you wanna trip on me." Uh, can we say "Batdance" anyone?

I think that, if Prince didn't, MJ definitely saw Prince as a rival and a threat. There have been many stories saying that MJ was jealous of Prince’s film success-especially the academy award. Also, there were rumors that MJ was jealous of Prince being viewed as more mysterious, more sexual, and more adventurous, and manlier even though Prince often dressed more feminine than MJ.

Bottom line, 3121 is Prince being like Prince. Not copying MJ's sound. MJ is the one who, after Prince, added harder drums to his mix, got produced by Jimmy and Terry, and started adding more synth sounds, and sound effects, etc. Prince made Michael Jackson want to attempt to be more funky-not the other way around.

How is that copying P? I see your point with mostly everything else you said, but I don't know what to make of this.

Nah if he was sounding like Jako he would have reworked some classic old Prince songs as a Jacko tribute:

Exactly. That black outfit he was wearing in the "Bad" video looked like he was trying to copy the black outfit Prince was wearing at the lake in the "When Doves Cry" video.

I remember reading in the "National Enquirer" that Michael actually cried when the movie "Purple Rain" was so successful and his "Victory" tour was not as successful as he had hoped it would be. Normally, I don't believe anything in the "National Enquirer" but I can certainly see that happening. lol

He also named not one, but two of his sons "Prince". Michael says they were named after a family member but even if he does have someone in his family named Prince, he's a damn lie, he named those boys after Prince. lol

Actually since MJ has lost his mind & The Record Industry cant hide the truth about MJ & they cant make anymore money off him, because they cant hide what we all know.

Prince has been tapped to be financed on that "MJ Level".

Think about it, Prince doesn't do drugs, drink, sleep with boys & everything else he has done.See what is disgusting is Epic & all of the entertaintment industies has known what MJ has been up to since the late 1970's.

Prince is a quiet safe guy, that the Music Industry can feel safe in investing in. Do we ever hear of Prince cancelling Tours, Shows, Etc. No!

Prince has been tapped for our generation to be "The One". The Industry will always feel safe with their investment.

Was!!! What was teh last decent (even good thing he did).

Prince and MJ are at opposite ends of the spectrum...when Prince was 'big' he became an arse for beliveing his own hype.

Jackson became an arse after he was good for believeing his own hype...th eonly person making any positive noises is Jackson himself...and he's so messed up he doesnt even know it him saying these things.

Dont get me wrong - I have his albums but Im not blind enough to think he matters anymore. Jackson could die today or make records for another 20 years...he's still only be remembered for what he did 20 years ago (that and touching kids)

Did you read the booklet, all songs/instruments/vocals performed, arranged, composed by Prince? Can MJ do that? Can MJ create the range and layers of music, instrumentally and vocally? When I listen to 3121 I just don't see it as MJ influenced?

3121 is very Michaelish. Alot of people think that. Not only Prince and MJ fans but neautral music lovers who bought 3121. Prince has such a hard on for MJ and it shows on 3121. I wouldn't blame him, MJ is one super-talented mofo and every R&B/pop even rock musicians are inspired by what he's created over the last 30-odd years.

Also, I have to say this. I am sick of people putting down MJ's recent work. The common argument is that MJ hasn't done anything great since 1991 (i.e. the Dangerous LP). Well download some of these tunes and then tell me if you still think he hasn't made good music since the Dangerous album:

Stranger In Moscow (1995, HIStory)
Earth Song (1995, HIStory)
Childhood (1995, HIStory)
2 Bad (1995, HIStory)
Blood on the Dance Floor (1997, Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix)
Morphine (1997, Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix)
Ghosts (1997, Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix) compare to the chorus of "The Word
Is It Scary (1997, Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix)
Break of Dawn (2001, Invincible)
You Rock My World (2001, Invincible)
Butterflies (2001, Invincible)
Whatever Happens (2001, Invincible)
Shout (2001, Cry b-side)
Xscape (2003, unreleased) f'in brilliant, definately check it out!
The Way You Love Me (2004, The Ultimate Collection)
We've Had Enough (2004, The Ultimate Collection)

Ofcourse the above is just my personal taste, but most tracks are good and widely regarded as good. Just give the above mentioned tracks a chance and see if you change your mind about MJ's post-Dangerous music.

You may be right - MJ could do justice to these songs - but we will never know since MJ only works with the newest music tricksters so count on MJ singing Kanye West songs next time out not pairing up with Prince.
