3121: Vastly different than what has come before?

A lot of reviewers and fans are speaking of 3121 like it is a big change of pace for Prince. To me, it sounds right on the path of what he's been doing. Don't get me wrong, I dig the hell out of this album, but I don't think it's a big change of pace from what he's been up to lately. (Frankly, I think Prince has been putting out "Prince" music all along. Thoughts?

The Musicology tour and promotion raised the profile, 'what's hot' has come full circle, Universal appear to have greased the wheels well, and it's Prince's turn again.

Maybe he won't sell in the same numbers - but no-one sells in those numbers today.

Look at it from the wearied hack's point of view: there comes a point where you have to give credit, and if the product is up to scratch, and there's that maverick genius behind it ... well, even the most begrudging journo is going to admit that Prince has more musical talent and charismatic stage presence than the rest of the Top 50 put together .. those 'young turks' over at Okayplayer and in Outkast seem to give him 'props' ... so for critical credibility, it's best to acknowledge it and roll out those purple cliches for old times' sake.

Might even run a whacky story or two about him being a Witness and being sued for replumbing his L.A. mansion if it all goes a shade quiet.

... and you can tap your foot to some of those new groovy beats without a hip replacement.

I agree...Musicology was the warm up. I mean there are people hear that love Cinamin Girl and the horrendous Million Days from Musicology...but folks with the real ear for music can hear that just like with 1999 and Controversy before it Mucisology was the predessor to this record..the warm up so to speak.

There simply is no comparison between Fury and A Million Days. P was not on his game when he recorded Million. With Fury he nailed it
