I think Fury is about a certain fan or fans who went to great lengths to give love and props to Prince. Spending many sleepless nites, maybe long drives, torured nites waiting in lines when doors didn't always open. But they came again and again sometimes disrupting their routine, paying any price just to show P the way they were feeling for him and his music. The more they came and grooved at his jams the more their love felt like a rose to him. It let him know that he was the best and they did what it took to be there.
When he up and married Mani maybe they felt betrayed. The music and the late nite jams stopped. People speculated on the net about the breakup with Mayte and the union with Mani, Larry and the JW's. This must have felt like a thorn to Prince after all the love these dedicated fans/fan had shown. They brought him to the light again trying to show the world what they saw. But when he left them they used their perceptions to say how they felt scorned.

I think 'Fury' is about a woman.
I think 'Love' is about a woman or close associate. If you carefully read the lyrics to 'love' you will see it is not about the fans or those 'talking'. Those making disparaging remarks are contrasted with the addresse. 'Love' is not about us.

I hate to think that I think Prince writes lyrics about his fans, but a few tracks over the years have certainly sounded that way. Yeah, I was almost too embarrassed to post this at first, lest I look a bit over-obsessed. But fuck it, I'm obsessed. The Normal Whores Club

FunkMistress said: So I was listening to "Fury" obsessively over the last couple of days and remembering a comment Romera made to me after the SNL performance where we first heard it. She wondered if this song was directed to his fans, and I started thinking. It's a definite possibility. Prince is known for writing songs that sound like they're about love relationships but are really about something else. Examples: countless songs about his relationship with Warner Brothers, and "Pearls B4 The Swine," which is widely believed to be directed at fans who came to his Celebrations.
If you listen to "Fury" with this idea in mind, a lot of the lyrics seem applicable. Y’all must have dug it When you did your thing It’s like the song everybody wanna sing You were all happy when he was in his heyday. Every album was a hit, and everybody was singing along. Your ears are ringing with a voice that says “Queen got no King” This could be referring to all the constant rumors/speculation about his marriage breaking up. He got a message saying You tried to reach him on the phone He didn’t wanna answer cuz he’s so afraid You’d probably tell him just to leave you alone Is he confessing that he really does care whether or not his fans still love him? In Pearls B4 The Swine he sang, “Are we better off just fighting? You on your side, me on mine? (We don’t have to fight, no we don’t)" You must have heard he got another band They’re makin’ money, they’re makin’ plans You feel left out, but you need to understand Word on the street – he’s still your man (he’s still your man) People have been bitching for a long time about the company keeps. That he’s abandoned his old self to be accepted by Larry Graham and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Is he saying here that he’s “still our man”? Call me General FunkMistress of the Delusional Fam Brigade, but I feel like he’s talking to me when he sings “he’s still your man.” Look out, here comes your rainy day Now you think you got a good reason to say Everything that’s in your heart, come what may Even if his might get broken? As soon as people feel disappointed or betrayed by Prince (their “rainy day”), some feel free to get on message boards or other outlets and bitch to their hearts’ content, at times being unbelievably mean-spirited and personal. Some of these folks believe they have “good reason to say” some really fucked-up and bizarre shit. Is Prince telling us how much it has the power to hurt him? 2 sides to every story One man’s gloom is another man’s glory Could be directed at those who seem to take pleasure in the hard times of others (including Prince) when they feel bitter or slighted. Sun to a shadow, rose to a thorn There ain't no fury like a woman scorned Once these folks felt nothing but love and happiness (sun and roses) about Prince and his music. Somewhere along the line it turned to bitterness (shadows and thorns). Some of these people act like spurned lovers, hanging around sites like prince.org like rejected stalkers, spewing the "fury of a woman scorned." What do you think? I dont buy that at all!! Fury has a famous line adapted and borrowed from Shakespeare. Prince probably heard it and liked it, and made a song out of it. Lord knows, he'd b one to have experienced a woman's scorn with the no. of lovers he's had! The Tao te Ching gives advice to rulers:

Yes, 2 of the 10 or however many tracks are on that clunker about the online fan community, I mean, what else! Sheesh! Heck, I'm sure another sleuth can decrypt why a good 3 or 4 more tracks are about us. 3121... what does it mean? Obviously it's his passcode to the .org. Lolita? ALL about us fans and how he'll never give in to our pleas to make Purple Rain II. Incense and Candles? Made that one obviously just to piss us off. No hard feelings.

It could be about fans, his wife and a woman scorned. He doesn't have any rules to follow and could easily mix ideas into one song. but the part where he says that she says what's in her heart even tho his might be broken makes me think it's about his fans. especially the ones who felt bannished. and why would Mani care if she's doing things without him anyway?

I KNEW I wasnt the only who couldnt desypher the lyrics right. Its like he's not saying everything clearly in this song. This song can be sung very easily with clearer words, but there are alot of metaphors and thrown together words that make it almost seem like hes saying something else while keeping the theme of the song.
And this is the only song on here that does this to me Love is definitley about us "Stop givin me your wish list" .. THAT IS PRINCE.ORG ALL THE WAY Straight Jacket Funk Affair

THAT IS PRINCE.ORG ALL THE WAY Love is definitely about the selfish fans who obviously don't give a damn about Prince, as a human being. There are people who post here who don't care that he is finally a whole person, after tripping for so many years. Folks don't want to respect the fact that he doesn't want to make Darling Nikki songs anymore. I am not a Jehovah Witness, but the Larry Graham barbs really make me sick! I think it's interesting that there haven't really been that many posts to this thread. I guess the guilty ones don't really have anything to say on this issue...Prince said it all on the CD... and I- for one- am glad that he did... Dissecting it is all part of the fun. cool. I agree. Prince is the man. I was a somewhat "scorned" when he kept doing after after parties for celebs, making the privlidged celebs a higher priority than his fans, after all we the fans keep our prince the star that he is. i like to believe that most of his songs are interactive, games he plays with his fans, when it's prince they're not just songs they're much more than that [Edited 3/25/06 23:57pm]

My initial feelin' was this song was about Mani and I also think the song "Love" is about Mani. You can feel his frustrations of having to put up with her antics and nonsense during their relationship. I laughed when I first heard this song (love) cause I have experienced the same feelings of frustrations in relationships that you are trying to work through-- and I could totally relate to the brotha.

And it sounds like the ball is in her court... the bit about the phone number, word on the street, he's still your man, and anticipates that his heart may get broken... Given that he's "still" your man, might be about Mani, and it's not dissing her in the least. It's like a plea for her to come back!
