3121 expected to debut at #1 Hitting the streets for next week’s chart are Prince’s Universal Republic debut 3121, which is expected to bow at #1 , along with Columbia’s Teddy Geiger, Victory’s Atreyu and Reprise’s My Chemical Romance special edition. Look for Manilow’s The Great Love Songs of the Fifties to be regenerated with some of its songs being performed by contestants on this week’s American Idol.

Well let's hope they continue to be right on this. I observed a few record stores here in NYC and the CD is selling well. In fact, I saw two guys buying it so that made me happy. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I wouldn't be surprised since it is the only major release out there and the critics are really loving it (the video is also getting played a lot!) but some guy named BG has an album out....No name rappers always shock me by debuting at number one but also take a look at how older artists with rapid fans (Barry Manilow, as cited) have surprise albums debut at number one. At first I didn't think the album had a chance at the Top Ten but since nothing else is coming out the the press is so positive (and it's a major release), a top ten debut is nearly certain.

It doesn't help us. However, I'll be happy for Prince. Having another number 1 album after years and years of struggle will be nice for him, I'm sure. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Chemical Romance and BG kinda scare me but I think Prince will top the charts. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Chart success means different things for different artists. For Prince, it really would be quite the feat to return to number 1 after a big public backlash in the 90s and years of treading through the half experimental, half commercial landscape. I never said they don't mean anything. I like following charts as I'm a numbers guy. Also, it is clear that Prince has tried several times to woo the mainstream with plenty of his albums over the past decade: Emancipation, Rave and Musicology are 3 prior examples, and 3121 is the newest offering. I'm sure Prince would appreciate a number 1 album. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Without looking can you tell me who curently has the number one album? It doesn't really matter anymore because it's typically a one week affair because you need to sell so few cd's to achieve it.

What would it do for us? Fuck US...what would it do for Prince...it'd allow him to buy a goddamn house and stop RENTING. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Huh? Well, he hasn't achieved it with the past many releases, so it would still be an achievement for Prince.

I doubt this will happen. There's not nearly enough hype for this record.
And even if it does go number one, that's no good for us cuz it'll tell Prince to keep making luke warm albums...not like that'll stop him anyway.

TimeKeeper said: Moonbeam said: That didn't exactly happen after Purple Rain... At least Purple Rain was an album that atracted the masses. But its success led Prince to abandon its style for the most part and alienate a lot of his new fans. Prince has a love/hate relationship with the mainstream for sure.
