A lot of 1999 echoes in 3121 and for that reason I'm loving 3121!

I am always amazed when someone says they hate 1999. There is so much to love about that album and so much to love about this one. I am so feelin 3121, unlike Musuckology lol

I hear shades of 1999 is "3121", "Lolita", "Fury" and even perhaps "Love". drool

And what shades come to mind biggrin

I love the New Wave legacy of his early work. That is what was so fun with 1999.

GangstaFam

I totally get what you mean. Different chords, but similar cadence and tone.

What I can't help but wonder is if 3121 was intended to recall 1999, will the next cd be more like PR?

Nah, it'll sound more like the MIDI soundtrack music to Monkey Island, methinks.

Oh wait, that was "Te Amo Corazon"! And I don't even mean that in any derogatory sense?

yeah but the real question is, does prince play around
with those old instrument tracks?

like for instance, does he stroll through his vault,
thinking "i'll need something reminiscent of some of
my old classics, but slightly different"

at which point he takes the synth trax from the 1999
titletrack and puts them on the wheel.

after a while he decides to reverse the tape and play
it like that.

then he slightly ajusts that and re-records it onto a
new tape.

voila, basic synth track for a new song.

would he?

I just checked it and you are right. Fury is 1999 - Chord for chord. In reverse. how amazing. Even "Mommy why does everyone have a bomb?" has been reversed and can be heard in the 3rd verse.

Well i never.

I played samples of '3121' for Drew the other day- he said "Fury" reminded him of "1999" ...and Drew doesn't know dick about Prince.

I here what you're saying.

nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."
