To sum this album up in one sentence - everything thats ever influenced Prince musically over his career seems to show in this album - and thats why I like it although I do miss his more dirty side lol!

Said it on another thread, but on this official sticky I will repeat myself:

First album since ages (Lovesexy?!) I do not feel the urgent need to press the skip button on some (or half) of the songs. And that surprises me most: the new spring is here, and Prince releases a fresh sounding album (or I have turned into a sentimental old fool in the last 2 years ... could be. )

Hi All, I just got the CD from a locally owned shop, and it mostly ,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK,SUCK, SUCKS!!!!!



They are 3 good songs on it. 3121, Lolita, Blacksweat.



The only people who are gonna love this CD are proble the ones that have actuially been to 3121..... Oprah...etc.....


Prince has lost touch, wtih the listining public, me in General.., and no i'm not a black kid into hiphop. I'm a 29 year old white guy from WV, who grew up listing to a non clear channel, non hip hop, non play 12 year old pop shit, radio station, that he prospered on.

I can take a Prince CD being different, I liked TRC, THe Truth, ONA. BUt this CD is total shit with the exception of 3 songs.

I guess throwing parties for other rich people,, is cool, but he's lost touch with me, and for that part a good pop song, written in a way that I can relate too.

So now you know why, he's giving away 7 tickets, and doing TV, because this thing is a TURD!

I'm from Austria and over here it's already available in stores (it was the same thing with MJ's Invincible - dunno y we're always more lucky than the rest of the world)

@3121: at first I was pretty disappointed. I mean I was promised a funky fresh, innovative album of the decade, that'd put P back on the (public? official?) map. What did I get? 3121.

It immediately reminded me of everything P did in the 90's. 3121 is P Control vs. Days of wild (ok, but nothin nu), TAC strongly reminds me of Money don't matter 2night and Incense & candles could be a left-over from The chocolate invasion, for all I know. Plus: Get on the boat is similar 2 Prettyman BUT far better.

Now that I had time to give it some listenings, it turned out better than I thought/feared. TAC & BLAB are very decent, Satisfied is every little bit as great as I imagined it (based on the vanguard jam) and Get on the boat is just off the hook. Love is tight song, somewhat innovative (although it always reminds of something the BEP would do...) and already in my hot-rotation . I'm not 2 excited about Black sweat (very innovative, but still...), neither am I all convinced of it being hit-material, but if it hits the charts, I know I'll love it - it's still P

Fury? Damn right: *FURY*! I hate how that turned out! I found it VERY promising after SNL, but now I'm all disappointed. I hate the production - it sounds so cheap, so 80's (but not in a good way). And you would think that of all people P would be the one who knows how 2 make a decent 80's track... I thought it would be a smooth rock song and not some Miami Vice title melody.

Overall I'm rather disappointed. I can't get rid of that 'heard it all before'-feelin. (But don't worry - it's not as bad as you might think after reading the above. That's just my disappointment speaking).

Will it be success? Maybe; I mean, the people who know all of P's 90's stuff are in a minority. Maybe to the rest it actually is fresh, new and exciting....

edit: I got it already last friday. My brother works in a radiostation. That's why I had some time to listen to it carfully.

Haha I was fine with waiting another day but after reading about so many people having it even though I knew it wasn't out in the states yet I went looking for it anyway. I was hoping someone would've broke the street date but alas they haven't and now I am dissappointed when I shouldn't be. I'm even more dissappointed because i'll be doing something when it comes out tommorow and won't be able to get it till Thursday unless I go try to but it at about 6pm tommorow.

3121 is in a similar category to Musicology, but with just a little more tang to it (really modern sounding synths and beats, vocoder etc.). It's also got that dense Come/Gold Experience sound to it. It's definately a great party album no doubt! It's too early for me to say whether it's up there with 1999, Parade, Lovesexy or The Rainbow Children etc, but I will say it's definately better than the majority of his more recent commercial attempts (D&P, Emancipation, Rave, Musicology etc.). "Insense & Candles" and "BLB" are the only tracks I tend to skip. Everything else is more than worthy of attention. Fav tracks so far: "3121", "Fury" and "The Dance".

Just my 2 cents...

Why would the version with the bonus track cost almost $20 more? Maybe it's some sort of CD/DVD version with concert footage from the recent Tamar concerts, otherswise paying an extra $20 for 1 extra song is pure robbery.

the strongest track so far (to me) is The Word...

It would do well on iTunes... thats where it should be.. fans wont have to fork out so much money, and i'm sure profit wise it would do fine.
