Just watched "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" on Launch...

Something about the video bugs me. For starters, Prince's look for the video was, well, not so great. And I felt that in some shots of the video he was trying much to go with the MTV audience, which makes the video look kinda dated.

Dont get me wrong...Its not a bad video. I just feel that Prince was a bit misadvised during this period.

Look at this way...Compared to his style in the video and the style he sports in "Black Sweat", his look in "Black Sweat" is pimping.

It seems now that he's got that part locked downe4

Yeah, that video really bugs me for some reason. The song is alright, but the video just seems "off" in terms of how Prince is presenting himself.

hm. I thought he looked pretty good. He looked good in "black sweat" too but I am sick of seeing that hairdo.

I really want him to change his hair and stop screwing up his moustache.

i thought he looked very well in the video, plus it still is
one of the best video's for any of his songs yet.

what i totally dig is when they're sitting on those chairs,
singing "inspite of ur desire to mold me", that shot is one
of the best images of prince i've ever seen.

altho, it does show through that his jesus complex was at an
all time high at the time.

I hate this video more than any other. He certainly has worse, but he gave in to that damn trend in the late 90s where every urban artist was set in a room and looked cornered to perform. Think "Mo' Money Mo' Problems" in the ship. Think "He Wasn't Man Enough" by Toni Braxton. I hated that trend because it was as if the camera was backing them into a corner and wouldn't let them out unless they performed on the spot.

Bingo! Thats what I mean when I say that the video looks dated and trendy. I never thought it was a horrible video, per say. Lord knows Prince has done worse videos(think Betcha By Golly Wow or Come On). I just thought he was trying to hard to keep up with the MTV crowd of that time, not to mention that some of his style choices were not that great in the video

Thats the beauty of the videos off of Musicology and 3121. He's to the 9s style wise, and he's just being Prince rather than trying to come off as 50 fucking Cent

That's a really good question actually. I've never thought about it. Anyone know why it's SOLD? I know the connotation from the Greatest Story Ever Told...But, EvEr SoLd? Not too sure...

Let me put it this way: the song is not Prince's greatest achievement as a lyricist.

I think it is one of his best videos yet. Too bad it wasn´t shown on TV as often as it should. Some of the scenes remind me of the Black Sweat-video.

because if he gonna go the perm route...he shouldn't skip any hair appointments...in this video and most beautiful girl in the world...it looked like he had at least been to the "beauty salon" in recent months =-) that's all I am sayin....his hair is usually "nappy" looking...and he can afford to keep up his appointments...and I love him as much as the next one =-)

Again, "The Greatest Romance That's Ever Been Sold",is an exceptional song, composition and video.

This song/video releases the germinated state of adamaevah (yin/yang) through spiritualization of the meltdown and resurrection of life, love and free will through the choice of support and respect between a man and woman, let alone the sacred communion between them. Polarities are a funky bedspread! "Some people take a nap, some never sleep ... and some get the real truth". Do you?
