I sincerely thank you very much for your honest evaluation. No, I am not fanatical at all. Most who are JWs are not, we are largely very reasonable people. What I see here is something I have seen more than a few times, though. Someone newly baptized as a Jehovah's Witness, you must remember, was not unlike most here. Not a JW. They are not, for the most part, teachers and tactful in the art of teaching for they are babes to this new experience, and even though zealous and mean well, sometimes come across as, well, a little fanatical, for lack of a better term. This fades with time. Not that their zeal fades, but more accurate understanding of the Scriptures and instruction designed to make teachers out of us, helps us to gain a progressive understanding of things and season the things we say with salt, as it were. To make it more palatable. So next time you get that impression from one of us, just remember, odds are not so long ago they were not a JW. They were just like you. But they've learned some things they feel really great about and want to share it with everyone. Like I said, the longer they are JWs, if they apply what they learn, the better teachers they will become. smile
Thank you again, vagina. That meant a lot to hear that from you.

With all due respect, I get VERY sick of all the self-righteous, religious types quoting bible verses and trying to act like they have "the truth" at their disposal. This kind of crap starts wars in the "real" world and pisses people off on the internet as well.

Drop all this stupid fucking bible thumping and talk about something else. Prince is a complete ass for what he did and he had NO right whatsoever to try to push his views on someone else.

People have the right to be atheists.
People have the right to be christians.
People have the right to be jehovah's witnesses.
People have the right to be Buddhists.
People have the right to be Hindus.
Etc.

People have the right to be self-important, bigoted, religious assholes as well, but they should try to keep their opinions to themselves.

I agree. People are at the concert to have fun, not be embarassed and insulted. And besides, who the hell is he to start spouting off biblical references to someone who may not even be a part of that faith?!

The exact passage was Leviticus 19:28 . . . "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

So for all you with tattoos, I wondered what your opinion of this Bible reference is...

In my opinion, the bible is LOADED with references to what the divine being is instructing you to do, or not to do. I feel if one wants to quote ONE bible verse (Prince in this case) then he better be willing to stick by EVERYTHING the bible throws out.

There are references in the bible, for example:

Matthew 7:1-5

1 "Judge not, that you be not judged.

2 "For with what judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

3 "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye?

5 "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

rolleyes hmmm Somebody has been judging Abraham Lincoln...Corporations...Fans...rolleyes

Lavish you are so right in the respect that how can you selectively quote certain passages in the bible to fit your argument? There are so many passages in there. And yes we should not be judgemental towards each other cause God will judge us all! God forgives everything so why can't we ? Why can't we forgive our brothers and sisters and be more Christian like? I know first hand you can be a good person and get spit on so to speak although it breaks your spirit and your faith in mankind sometimes since your conception of that Perfect Ideal world is shattered I believe we must still have faith that things will get better that things will change in a more positive vein.

Bottom line is, this Scripture is part of the Mosiac Law and was in effect only specificly to Ancient Israel under that law. It is the only time any mention of it occurs in the Bible and is not a statute repeated to Christians. There was a specific reason for it at the time, it no ,longer applies since the Law was fulfilled. Or, as Russell said (go figure, I agree with Taz on this one) all the rest of the Law would be in effect.

To have or not to have a tatoo is a personal decision based on conscience for a Christian. Yes, there are factors to consider in making such a decision, but the long and short of it is, it is up to the person. I, for one, have a tatoo. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses. It is in a discreet place that I can cover when I need to as not to detract from my ministry etc. but I do have one. Would I advise anyone else to get one? No. Would I advise against it? Not necessarily, but maybe. There is no hard & fast rule guiding such a thing for Christians. Instead, certain principles need to be applied. This may be a case of Prince's conscience letting him try to decide what another should do. We need to be cautious of this. Just because you may feel strongly about a certain thing, doesn't mean it is your place to decide for another to come to the same conclusion you arrived at. Each one must carry his/her own load. I hope that makes enough sense to those not Biblicly inclined.

here here! hmm now i'm wondering where you put it. wink

i have never gotten a tattoo, not for any spiritual scruples, but because i could never really decide on:

1) what to get

2) where to put it

for that matter... back in that day women wore nose rings and i think that those innocuous little bits of jewelry are still somewhat frowned upon in conservative western society...

Do you think Prince would have prince tattooed on his body? Does Mani have a prince symbol permanently affixed to her ass? Did Mayte?

Did Fred, Aaron, Kirk, Mr. Hayes, Takumi or anyone around Prince have prince tattoos?

I feel you Gold. No MANS name should be tattooed to your body...to me it's a sign of idol worship...That's just my opinion. No one has to agree.

But maybe being apart of a 'fansite' could be viewed the same way? Hmmm...need to reflect on that one.

I have 13 tattoos, one of them is a symbol, not the soapstone alchemical symbol, but the first one, the originale...the other tattoos that I have have a lot of spiritual meaning. My favorite tattoo, is of the flower of life...it looks like a spirograph design. It is representative of the 7 days of creation.

People have been sticking ink and colored powders into their flesh before MAN wrote the bible. Prince needs to go back to how he was BEFORE the Larry influence or else he needs to talk to Eddie Murphy...

"Jehovah, Buddha, Allah, God, makes no difference who you are, all I care is that you PRAY, we're brothers can't you see."-Eddie Murphy (I, Me, Us, We)

I think God or rather...ahem, excuse me, The Lord, has bigger fish to fry then tattooed people. Or maybe I'm going to hell for having had a cheeseburger on Friday?

My husband (Ben) is born again. We were talking with a member of our church and Ben told of how one of his old friends became a preacher. This friend now goes back to their old neighborhood and when he walks down the street, their old friends go inside because they don't want to be preached to. Ben loved that. The "light was casting out all darkness" and all that.
I thought it was terrible. People will not even look at the light if it is blinding them. The whole idea that those who know the Lord in their life are, in some way, better than those without has always pissed me off. The whole idea that people who know the Lord have the right to judge the lives of others (gays, the tattooed, the "unsaved" etc) really pisses me off. Each person is responsible for their own life and their own relationship with the Lord. What may be my light may not be someone else's, nor should it be!
As a Christian, I am responsible for "spreading the word." Spreading the word, not choking people with it. And it is DEFINATELY not my responsiblity to judge people who's light is different than mine. I lead my life in prayer and thanks to the Lord and pray that my actions will lead someone to their light. I'm still study the scriptures so maybe there's more I'm suppose to be doing, but until I see, I'll stay the course I'm on.

Sorry for the rant. Just needed to say that.
I'm firmly planted in denial

Dear Prince,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people
regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your beliefs, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone has a tattoo, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 19:28 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them.

1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual cleanliness - Lev.15:19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the
Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I
wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? -Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

LoveAlways,

C.Taze Russell

The JW's I have met seem to be nice and they are very neat people (clean) the ones I have met in person, like the ones I work with for instance. I don't agree with them but they don't bother me. A lot of people here do not like them including you. I think they have a right to speak their minds since a whole lot of people like to trash em' all the time. Regardless of how we feel about them, if people keep making remarks about them they won't stop defending themselves and their beliefs. Maybe if we all stopped this religious mumbo jumbo we can all talk about everything but religion. I think the org would be a much cooler place then.

Can I just say 1 more thing about tatoos? Well this is also going to open up a can of worms. Well it's that person's body if they want to have a tatoo and they are not hurting anybody else, well what's wrong with that? Isn't that somebody else just trying to make that person feel insecure or give THEIR Problem to another? Like Madonna says I Ain't Your Bitch Don't hang your Shit on Me! Live I say and let live and really do we have to all be alike? Can't we just be happy within ourselves? Won't others love us if we can just try to love ourselves? I do believe Kim Bassinger did ask Bruce Wayne this question!

Now since this reference does seem to apply to the pagans of the day when the christian church wanted to completely irradicate the pagans. The bible also reads "let no a witch to live". I do not believe that much of what is writen in the bible is soley for religious purposes, as much as it is for financial puposes of the times it was writen in and holds little true for todays christian.

Great. Then prove it by not posting cult propaganda on this site for at least one week.
the longer they are JWs, if they apply what they learn, the better teachers they will become.
Cultists don't "teach" they propagandize and indoctrinate. When a JW knocks on my door their job is to
1.) alert that I am in danger,
2.) instill that I need to do something to save myself, and
3.) implore that joining the JW cult is that something.
Twist it in any way you want, that's the door-knocker's job.
A teacher is not someone who sells ideas/"knowledge"/praxis/etc. A teacher is someone who's fundemental motivation is to encourage a student to, and introduce skills that they can use to be able to, think for themselves.

Like you know me? Whatever. Me thinks you are the one who is obsessed with the opposition of Jehovah's Witnesses like so many others on this site. Prince becomes one of Jehovah's Witnesses and you all show up to bash us and try to smear our name and God's name while you're at it. You create straw men and knock them down to your own amusement. How dare you? How dare you refer to me as a fanatic? You don't know me and need to back up, get over yourself, and your obsession with me and every other JW on this site. It's like DrNappy said earlier, don't start none won't be none. Stop with the lies and unsubstantiated attacks on JWs and there will be a lot less discussion here about it. But, that would not fit into your little agenda of hate and spite, now would it? Nah, you feed on it. If it were not here, you would shrivel and die like the parasite you are. It is the name of the first president of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. He organized and financed using his own personal fortune the first group of Bible students who became the organization we know today as The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. His writings and studies of the scriptures jump-started the group that evolved into what we now have today in 235 lands. We view him as a very honorable person who sacrificed much so that we could progress to the point where we are today. He did not have all the answers, but was faithful to Jehovah and knew that in time we would all continue to grow in our understanding of Scripture and progress in knowledge as time went on (Prov 18:4)
Some like to lie and say that he is the person we follow and whose teachings we subscribe to. This is not the case. There are many changes and correctons we have made since he was alive and continue to do so today. We are not like the sects of Christendom who do this. We do not have a Luther,Wesley,Walden, etc. Christ is our leader. So, yes, I think "TAZE" here is trying to be cute or something with the name. I'm sure he'd tell you we are all "Russelites" or something stupid like that. If you want more info on Jehovah's Witnesses see http://www.jw-media.org or http://www.watchtower.org
Anything else besides info direct from the JWs is likely to be tainted with lies and anti-JW propaganda. As is evident on this site, there are quite a few people obsessed with us and try everything possible to keep people from being able to know what we have to say. (John 15:18,19)
