So, I may assume that you don't like "Adore" either?

And, while I can follow a lot of your points, I just can't see what about "Rave" might be overproduced? I think some of the tracks are underproduced (= lacking some creative ideas for their arrangements), but what track falls into the category of "less could have been more" in your opinion?

I love Adore. That's just about his best use of layered vocals. Man O' War isn't nor is it his worse.

For me, overproduction is more than using too many instruments or vocals, it's trying to sound too slick and making it very airtight and robotic. So perhaps I meant "too slick". Rave, Hot Wit U, Silly Games, Wherever U go... those are just overthought and I know at least one of them sounded 10 times better initially.

I like the released version of "Rave" a lot more than the studio version I've heard from '88. Perhaps it was the quality of the recording...

Live though, "Rave" couldn't be touched from its Small Club glory. love

I guess you mean "Rave". I think of that as the kind of song which serves more as a base for exciting live performances (like "It's gonna be a beautiful night", "Days of Wild") and just doesn't work in the studio because the song material itself is not that strong and it needs a live vibe for excitement. The Small Club version really does that for me, and I would have loved a similar re-recorded live rendition (shorter) to replace the studio version on the album. But that would have contained much more sounds than the album version, especially guitar, so I just wouldn't call the studio stuff "overproduced".

I have to say that "Rave" is probably one of my least favorite discs. I thought "Greatest Romance" was an inspired choice for a first single and the video was awesome! It just didn't catch on because it wasn't a party starter like we're used to hearing from him. Loved "Hot Wit U" - though I'm an Eve fan, so I could be biased. The opening track sounded like it was dragging it's feet and "Undisputed" with all of it's NPG cheering sounded like a "Newpower Soul" leftover. I liked the cover of "Everyday Is A Winding Road" and how he flipped into a total jam - but "Baby Knows" actually featured Sheryl Crow and you could hardly hear the woman, plus the lyrics were inane. I'm not a huge ballad fan, so I won't say anything about those tracks, because that wouldn't be fair. "Prettyman" though is terrific and I think the only track on the disc that doesn't feel contrived.

Didn't like it at all, but i may give it another go. Its just too average and bland if i remember. And feels like an album cobbled together, which i normally prefer from prince albums in general (ie graffiti bridge) but not in this case.

I've always loved the album, but you've done a wonderful job of convincing me otherwise...

Its like grafitti bridge, if u like US MOR pop 1999 style (and i mean the time period LOL), then u'll proberly like it. If u liked poppy rnb circa 1990 style, u'd proberly like the majority of grafitti bridge.

I mean "hot wit u" is just embarrassing. That chorus gets on ur nerves.

Again, Rave Un2 (left hand path (knowledge)- tree of life ) Rave N2 (right hand path (wisdom) - tree of life) and TRC (the rainbow children) balance tree of life with the tree of knowledge.

There is more than meets the "eye". I will say this:"The eyes have ears and the Ears have eyes, which do you open first to stay alive? RAVE N2(un2) the JOY...(power) fantastic.

Thank you just sharing "promisekept".

Your rampant 'parenthesizing' can't save 'Everyday's a Winding Road'. barf

I'm worried about 3121. So far the songs I've heard have been iffy at best. Te Amo Corazon? Black Sweat? Neither are particularly catchy to me. Beautiful, Beloved & Blessed is a good song. But hardly grabs you. I'm hoping the remainder of the album is cooler..

Rave was my first prince album (NPS is not a Prince album in my opinion)...I listen to it alot!

But I'm more of "in2" than a "un2" person!

It's a very emotional album! cool

The 1st 2 tracks from RUTJF are weak but I've a lot of time for the rest of the album , especially TGRES , Tangerine and Pretty Man .
