So, I got to work early this morning, with a raging headache, and decided to stumble into a nearby Starbucks for some caffeine. Walk in, and they're playing Te Amo Corazon. I always think it's cool when I hear Prince out and about like that, so I was enjoying it, even though it's not my favorite song by a long stretch.

So that ends, and up starts Black Sweat.

Followed by Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed.

I haven't been following the 3121 stuff that closely, and I hadn't actually heard the album versions of those last two tracks yet.

So, this whole experience struck me as odd for a few reasons. First of all, what has happened to me as a fan if I'm hearing Prince music for the first time at Starbucks? (answer: Rainbow Children happened to me as a fan, but I digress). Second, what has happened to Prince if most or all of an album is appropriate to be played at Starbucks? And third, I liked the songs.

I actually had the same thought when Black Sweat started playing, though. The barista was handing over my coffee when it came on, and I was like, "this album isn't released yet, how the heck do you have it?". He just shrugged his shoulders and got back to his coffee. Clearly, if there was a "collector" there, it wasn't him.

But yeah, it turned out that it was just those three tracks.

Starbucks will sell albums. Maybe they are planning on selling the album at starbucks. I don't really care to hear from starbucks haters here. It is a good stredgy. Us starbuck user people will be drinking coffee and check out new albums. It might be a wise choice to get a couple of new listeners. And, lets face it, if you are in starbucks, you have a couple of extra dollars in your pocket.
