PURPLE RAIN-How old were U when .... How old were U when Purple Rain was released in theaters? I was 12 years old and I remember begging my grandmother to take me (God rest her soul ). I also remember being told to cover my eyes on some parts of the movie . Do U have any memories of the era? Whether good or bad?

I was 18. We had such a good time at the first showing of the film. It was crazy!!! Women were yelling at the screen when Francis L. hits the Kid in the face. We were all up and dancing throughout most of the movie. It was like a concert.

My Dad took me and my sister to the theater in Albany!
I was 11 and she was 9. I remember how wonderfully strange it was to finally hear Prince speak After the movie I persuaded him to take me to the record shop and buy me the Purple Rain cassette. Then, just before checking out, I asked him if he would get me "the one with 'Little Red Corvette' on it, too?" Thanks, nurse, now I feel old again "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

I was 20, it was 1984 & it blew my mind
I first saw Prince live in 1980…………… I’m still amazed with the following he has now with the young & those who weren’t even born when he popped in ‘84 [Edited 1/24/06 12:20pm]

I was 14. At that time, Prince and Purple Rain were just parts of the entire 80s music experience.

I was into my fifth life, making me...346...
no, seriously, I was 10 during that time. Then it was the big 4, Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Springsteen. They were untouchable during that period. The music was cool, the vibe was cool, the videos was cool. MTV (not empty-v) was young and actually played music! All kids walked home from school without worries of being kidnapped, but we did worry about the Nightstalker (Richard Ramirez) for a while (at least here in southern california). Mcdonald mint shakes were the shit on St.Patrick's day back then And it seemed to rain a lot more too. I remember seeing commecials for the then "pay-per-view" style of programming that SelectTV or ONTV had back in the day and wishing that I had that service. Remember that? Then..... I remember seeing the movie for the first time on HBO on saturday night, yeah right after that cool ass intro HBO used to have before a feature presentation, the one with the camera panning through that miniature cityscape and then panning panning to the night sky, only to reveal a splash of light and the HBO sign coming down from the sky. C'mon, yall remember that, right? I remember seeing the movie, digging the music, and talking about it the very next Monday at Kennedy Jr. High. We used to play music during lunch hour, and I would request purple rain. Of course, that wouldn't happen because everyone wanted to hear Dress You Up or She Bop. Going to pizza parlors to play video games since the best we had at home was the Atari 2600. We were too poor for Intellivision, Colecovision, or a Commodore 64. While at the pizza parlor we would listen to 45s on the jukebox (again, I got my Prince tunes without prejudice there!) Not really having to lock up my Schwinn beach cruiser (aqua blue color, baby) but merely turning it upside down onto the seat and handlebars. Hey, that was all the protection I needed back then. Wearing O.P. and LeTigre, I didn't give a damn! Realizing that prince actually had a voice speaking...and tripping on his reply to Jill Jones in the movie of "What, a subpoena?" and thinkning that was such a dirty thing to say. Hey I was 11, and knew nothing of the legal system. Still digging a hole in my backyard and having the fellas over to play Sarlaac Pit with our Return of the Jedi figures. GI Joe cartoon, Transformers -- boo witht he GoBots, and tripping out on all the hype of the '84 Olympics in the LA Colloseum. Yeah, memories man, memories...can you dig it? 14 That was the most expensive movie ticket I ever had to buy. I had to promise my father and stepmother that I'd do the dishes every night for the entire summer if they'd take me to see it. The dishpan hands were sooooo worth it!!!
