Sometimes you have to put a song's lyrics in perspective.

Love is a pop song first and foremost, and the lyrics are quite good within that context. For a more serious song, I'd agree that the lyrics should be more mature and deep. But here, they're perfectly fitting.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I agree the lyrics and music deserve each other in Love.

A flip remark from Wall that both isn't constructive and says the same thing again and again. Say it ain't so!

Oh please. Get a sense of humor and don't be so defensive. And like you're not beating the same drum over and over again. You think it's a classic album, we get it. I think't shite, we get it, too. I don't understand why some of you take remarks about Prince's music so personal. That's got to hurt your critical capacity, I would think.

My remark was 100% serious? Wow, someone has perception problems.

I think it's a classic album? Could've fooled me. I remember stating that I'd rate it no higher than 4/5. That's hardly classic status to me.

It's because it seems to be your only focus, responding to pretty much anyone who says something positive about 3121 or any song on it. Someone says "I love this song", 80% guarantee Wall will be there to respond with "It's shit". It's almost as if it's your goal to be the wet blanket.

Hardly. I've tried to not respond to most of the praise threads. But when someone labels Love a Prince classic, my opinion is so strong against such the statement that I had to speak up. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, if you think this album is one of his best, or the best in 10 years, etc, then you win, but as being that we're on a message board that isn't a Prince shrine, I think I'm within my rights to give my own two cents on what I think is a shite album. And again, we're talking about music, I don't understand why my opinion is a 'wet blanket' just because I think this album is a clunker. I thought what separated this place from other boards was the fact that everyone here wasn't in that bizarre, cultic 'fam' mindset where Prince can do no wrong.

You already made your feelings on the song known earlier in the thread. Your last comment offered nothing constructive. It was just a chance for you to chime in again that you think the song sucks.

Oh please. Called on what? So if you make a positive comment on a song more than once can I come do some mini-policing, noting that you "Already said you liked it."

Now, all this discussion about me is taking this thread off-topic, I think. Let's get back to how lame this song is. razz

Please...stop with the distortions of people's posts, especially mine...either that, or you really need some reading comprehension skill improvement.

I'll say it again as clearly as possible...I explained why people react to you the way they do...I did not say you didn't have a right to be the way you are or post what you do. Talk about being "within your rights" is so irrelevant I scratch my head at why you bother to include it.

And labeling those people who find your one-note approach to posting your opinions irritating as being a part of some "bizarre cultic fam mindset" is really weak. And for the record PurpleKnight is the LAST person who would fit that description...lol lol...He and I have gotten into heated debate about things he's found fault in when it comes to Prince's output, so I can attest that whatever his criticisms of your posts may be, they are NOT based on him wanting a message board in which "Prince can do no wrong"..lol

I was speaking in general terms about this place, not any one poster. I certainly didn't have you specifically in mind. Did I write your name? What were you saying about comprehension?

At any rate, unlike you and young Skywalker, I'd rather not get personal, like I said, I'm only here to talk about Prince's music, not other posters writing styles or name calling (wet blanket, if you want the example, Mr. Citation).

Again...you wondered "out loud" why Purple and others reacted the way they do towards your posts...I told you why I thought they did. React to that however you want.

I can't believe how much I'm starting to enjoy the WHOLE album. Strange but true. In fact there is not a single wrong song on this record. It just has peaks and valleys, which is just perfect.

Only around here and to the die-hards. Imho it's a stale number with terrible lyrics.

The DAnce I just previewed last week, then half yesterday, and the whole today omg

WHAT AN ENDING. Someone said it reminded them of Beautiful Ones, but not at all to me, this was totally different, and so was the subject matter..I can relate to it in every way.

It is one fascinating song.

Oh and LOVE is a hot song! The lyric arrangement is what makes it stand out too.

I keep giving this song more chances but it just gets worse for me. I know, beat a dead horse, but that opening just puts an MTV "Making of the new Usher video," into my head, the glories of rhythm guitar be damned. And, paraphrasing, "love is like a bird that spreads its wings"? Whew. I'm surprised someone with a name like Byron would put such tripe in his sig. wink (And I mean lyrics from this song, I know you dont have that exact quote and I'm only referring to you with this one statement)

Anybody else get the feeling that "Love" is more about music crtics than a potential breakup?

And I swear that he refrences the Larry/Kirk Haters too.

What's the point in giving me ultimatums
Smiling at my friends when you really hate them
Trying to convince me that I should too
... what's the point?!

I love this song too...
