NOTHING sounds complete though, including the title track. (which I completely dig right now) I have this purple pimple prickel feeling that we are still in for a suprise come 3/21. Could be wrong, often I am ... But ads saying things like "Historic new album?" Pretty bold statement for what I've heard thus far.

Don't get me wrong, Love what I've heard. It will hang with today's mainstream, but isn't that the problem? Today's mainstream kinda being ... well in a rut?

HISTORIC to me would be if this album broke a mold. So far it is the album's diversity of "genre" that makes it stand out from today's acts but so did Musicology. Not that the Musicology and 3121 sound alike, all are good songs, but it's not like Prince to duplicate an album format back to back. He never has in his entire career. Then again, he was sportin' the "3121" clothing during the Musicology performances so this album could have very well been recorded during the same time or imediately right after the previous one.

HISTORIC just doesn't sit right with me as 3121 being just an album. There has to be a much bigger project to this. Think about it. Way more promotion, thus far as Musicology. The whole "3121 mystery" has been hinted at for over a year. To me, Musicology has been a set up for this the entire time. Why did he suddenly "come out of hiding" in 2004 with so much hype. All the 3121 parties in L.A.? The news reports, Oh LEAST NOT FORGET WENDY and LISA, all the celebrities, all these "conforming to the system" appearances in which he has went out of his way to reject for years unless he's got something to say?

These 3121 downloads don't say much that he's already said. So where does "HISTORIC" come in?

HISTORIC might play in a packaging game. (Been scratching my head on this for a few days, so bear with me) What if the album was a double sided disk that had a DVD on one side with a lot of videos? Given the JW life he's now a part of, I wouldn't put it past him that he'd have this entire "pop" album as a smoke screen to spread "The Good News" whether it's in a video format or additional downloads of Watch Tower literature on the disc. Now THAT would be HISTORIC. I can't think of anyone who's done that before. Ads saying things like "The album everyone will be talking about" just doesn't sit right with what we've heard. Sure WE'RE talking about it. (When I should be working) But we're the hard-core fans.

HISTORIC surely isn't the "Purple Ticket" although very cool and somewhat unique for an album release. I'd be flippin' thrilled to get one myself, but ...

HISTORIC just sounds a little too bold unless this is a much BIGGER project than what I feel we are being lead to believe.

What do you think? Is Universal or Mr. P's PR camp getting a little delusional or do we have a lot more suprises in store? Just seems like a lot of effort with a new band, new label, new websites ...

Something's UP! That just can't be all there is to it, surely ... "It ain't over"

I thought the same: from the songs i've heard & the reports, "3121" does not qualifies 4 "historic".
Good bunch of good pop/funk songs, yes. Historic, no.
Most of the 80's albums were historic because the were a true revolution.
"Emancipation" was kinda historic because it was kind of THE masterpiece of a career. "Crystal Ball" was THE long-awaited outtakes retrospective. "NEWS" was historic in Prince's career cuz it was the 1st Prince album not 2 sound like a Prince album & a mastery of improvisation. "Come 2 My House" or "GCS 2000" were historic as would have been a James Brown/George Clinton collaboration...
But "3121" seems 2 b nothing but "Musicology 2" in its concept. Good 4 business & cool songs 2 lesten 2, yes, but "historic"... I can't c why!

Honestly, there were a few "better" songs on rave than this one...

I Love You But I Don't Trust you Anymore
The Greatest Romance

those two alone are better compositions than anything on this new album..

This all of course isnt saying too much..

ANd that is your opinion. It doesn't make it fact.

Maybe the word "historic" was specifically chosen as the promotional keyword cuz of the name of the CD..... since history involves dates. And well... we all want it to be historic and memorable in a deep way.

Also they wanna continue on the roll of musicology and the feel good nature of his return to massive public popularity.

It is a really good promo tag though.. it sounds better than saying...."3121 - the new exciting CD by Prince"

I just heard a few tracks so far... the live version of Fury made it an important historic moment for me already. I will forever remember experiencing that and the utter joy and buzz it produced around the net... it was so exciting when that happened.

I can remember every time I listened to a new prince cd for the first time.
U know the feeling.. the excitement of rushing home from the store. It's magical!

Even if it was just laying on my bed with headphones on i can recall what i was wearing and how i felt.,, i remember my first impressions. the lighting... the way the room looked...the scent of the candles... everything. The first day of a release, to me, is a big thing and very historic. It's amazing how we associate music to our lives..... how a song can put us right back in time to re-live certain things. Romances, hardships, joy, deep suffering, awakening to universal truths... princes music is the soundtrack to all our lives. We are blessed.

I sure hope i win a purple ticket!!!!!
Maybe they will video tape the in house event.... maybe show it live! Then I can be on tv too! Woo hoo~! I will be the J girl with bannana curls dressed in elegant lolita cosplay style passing out in the front row.

I want a purple ticket NOW!
Gooses! Geeses!
I want my geese to lay gold eggs for Easter
(It will, sweetheart)
At least a hundred a day
(Anything you say)
And by the way
(What?)
I want a feast.
(You ate before you came to the factory)
I want a bean feast!
(Oh, one of those!)
Cream buns and doughnuts and fruitcake with no nuts
So good you could go nuts
(You can have all those things when you get home)
No, now!!

I want a ball
I want a party
Pink macaroons and a million balloons
And performing baboons and ...
Give it to me
Rrhh rhhh
Now!

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It's my bar of chocolate
Give it to me
Now!

I want today
I want tomorrow
I want to wear 'em like braids in my hair
And I don't want to share 'em ( i will share though) =)

I want a party with room fulls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream
And if I don't get the things I am after
I'm going to scream!

I want the works
I want the whole works
Presents and prizes and sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And now
Don't care how
I want it now
Don't care how
I want it now

I want a purple ticket!!!!! xox
"All of me eye give 2 thee down at your feet ...
The reassurance in your rhythm speaks 2 me."

I just can't understand some of the decisions with the songs.. for example, "The Dance"... what a great song..
But why use so much plastic? the piano isn't even real in this.. its a flippin keyboard...

would have been damn near perfect with the real instrumentation... it just seems like he stamped a big fat date on it from the sounds...

That's the way Prince has usually made music.

He used those "fake instruments" on The Beautiful Ones too.

Yeah I know... I'm not going against the "fake instrument" thing.. I just consider the sound very cheap.. generic type sound...

those instrumentation on the beautiful ones is anything but.
