I just noticed that both discs are chronological. I hadn't realized that until just now.

well tracks 1-3 are not on Disc 2 for better continuity in sound

Hey Tangerine,
Are the full version of songs like I Wanna Be Your Lover, When Doves Cry and 1999 gonna be on this disc or are they gonna be cut as usual? I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

First off, Tangerine: YOU ROCK! Thanks so much for all of your inside information in the past few months. It has been wonderful to hear your stories and now see the pics!
One thing that I find to be very interesting: it seems like the pics that are used on the covers of these best of sets never really reflect what's inside. I find it funny that the front cover is a Batman pic as there are no Batman tracks on the set. . .last best of CD there were 3 pics from Graffiti Bridge [1 track], 3 from Parade [1 track], 1 from Batman [no tracks], 1 from Dirty Mind [no tracks] and 1 from 1999 [2 tracks] with the back cover coming from the Scandalous single art work. Of course, the casual consumer is not even going to notice, but for an obsessed fan like myself it just seems a bit strange. With all of that said, the inside front cover looks really good. One other thing: WHEN OH WHEN will there be a remastered full version of "When Doves Cry?" How can they cut that song at all???!!!! [Edited 3/4/06 19:52pm]

[Edited 3/4/06 19:52pm] I decided it was the least "dated" Prince look to use on outer package. I thought about the music issue and also P rejected covers with much rarer and older shots...

Ok I have a couple really dumb (newbie-esque) questions...
1. Are all the songs on Disc Two 12" versions, but some of them just have different names (e.g. is the LRC Dance Mix essentially the same thing that would have been on a 12"?) 2. Were all the songs on Disc 2 originally released as these extended versions around the time the original edited version came out? The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Vinyl is a whole different world to me I wish I had paid more attention to it as a kid. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. To each there own but Money Don't Matter, My Name is Prince, & Nothing Compares to You don't belong. Erotic City the 12", A Love Bizarre, & Girls & Boys, & Anotherloverhonyohead would have fit nicely on this record. Also the fact that the full versions of Sign, & Doves Cry don't appear here is absurd. Also I Would Die 4 You easily could have been replaced by that killer 12 minute live version. The lack of creativity and really missed opportunity to something really extroidinary here is annoying Oh well [Edited 3/4/06 20:32pm] Dance... Let me see you dance

It looks nice.
Thing is, I have all these tracks so I'm doubtful I'll buy it when it first comes out. Maybe a few years down the line when it's cheaper, but with no liner notes, nothing new or particularly rare music-wise, and just a few rare photos? Doesn't really seem worth it unless you're a completist. Somebody will scan the photos and put them in the gallery here too, I'm sure. I'll probably buy Tamar's album instead, along with 3121 of course. Still, I like the design, font and photo on the front cover.

I am going to buy it, but I am not happy with the single edits for SOTT and WDC.

Tangerine - First off. I have been loving all of your posts (on both sites btw)
I understnad U did the best U could within the limits of the project. I am super xcited about this CD if not 4 DISC 2 alone!!! I'm very curious 2 see how much work went in2 the remastering process on disc 1. my real question is this and I understand it's all speculation but based on what happend with this CD do we ever stand a chance of getting a proper REMASTER of his catalogue. I know U had mentioned b4 that he would only do a special edition "Purple Rain" cd if he got back all his masters. If by some chance he did get back his masters wouldn't he censor and edit a lot of his bst work? What are the chances of RHino and Prince working 2gether again on individual CD remasters? Just an educated guess will do. Sign O the times is a MAsterpiece but the cd is recorded Horribly low.... [Edited 3/4/06 22:44pm] thaCONcept

Not wanting to speak for Tangerine17 as such, but from previous thread's about this Tang has revealed that Prince had some input into this package and asked for some songs to be taken out and replaced with others. We all have our own favourites we wish were on there, but in the end this is a product of keeping Prince happy and space on the discs (since full versions of each song would fill up the CD space meaning less songs). Next question inevitably is, why keep Prince happy? Well it seems that they wanted to keep Prince happy so that future projects potentially get the go ahead - and that could mean re-masters of some of Prince's back catalogue. From which you could infer that they need Prince's permission or co-operation to re-master his Warner's material.

Of course it's not just to keep Prince happy - but the casual buyer, too. We shouldn't be so hard on for example "Money don't matter 2night" being on there. If a casual listener picks this up out of interest AND because he knows a couple of songs on there... who knows, maybe we'll soon have a newbie to in here.

While I already have all the tracks on disc I'm actually really looking forward to this release. I think its a kick ass comp. Prince pulled 'Erotic City 12", right? Because of the cursing?

are they? LET'S WORK should have been the first track on CD2 then, and also RASPBERRY BERET was released before POP LIFE. yes SIR!

I hope they improved the sound of nothing compares 2 U ?

I think the tracklisting is a good idea, many casual Prince listener will put the disc 2 just to hear "Kiss" and they will found other kick ass version of classic then they will turn into the next level of fan, well I suppose
