I'm soooo looking forward to buying the album, getting home, putting it in the player, sitting down and really letting it sink in. I don't understand this whole philosphy. If a consumer buys a single, it means they are interested in owning just that one track that they've heard on radio or wherever. So how do single sales affect the sales of whole albums? Why would a consumer care about the other songs on an album project if they already have the single they are interested in? Help me get it. Another thing about the Cult of the sales chart. You realize that sales are counted by the amount shipped, right? So whatever the distribution company ships to retail is the number that shows up in the soundscan 'charts'. How is that an indication of how well the CD is being received? And why does anyone even care about how many other people are buying the CD that you will buy? Don't label me 'hater', I just want people to wake up from the illusion of charts. Not even thinking you're a hater, but I would ask you, "Don't you think it's about time Prince deserves this much hype, so much that it would make stores buy more, which means more units distributed. I am all for what you are talking about with the illusion of the charts. As someone put it here recently, it's a popularity contest at best. If you can be cool with that once in a while, I don't think there's any harm done. | |

so far the most striking quality to this album are his vocal arrangements. great to see something different from him. BUT so far i dont think the album is as great as some of these over enthusiastic reviews. However, i think it is better than musicology and probably all of his 90's output. Its very easy for fans to come out and say how great a new album because of the novelty, but there truly are some kick ass tracks here.
I can't beleive this is the same man that released Musicology a couple of years ago...I was starting to think the Prince I loved had faded away, I was wrong!! | |

Well yes, but this version has a different arrangement. It's not the same song on 3121 that you heard on TCI. It'll sound drastically different. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Hmm, I'd like to say this album has "1999"-era sensibilities funneled through the complex arrangement style of the  album... but it could just as easily be Rave redone in a slightly broken mold of Musicology. It's too early to tell BUT there is a certain 'greatness' to a few of these tracks.
I have a bit of confusion concerning the review early in this thread, however... are Wendy, Lisa, Fink, and Sheila E actually performers on this album? | |

This just post says what it says. It is important to me that 3121 becomes a success so that prince gets on a world tour and that he stops by my city. As a prince fan, I will always buy prince cds and it makes no difference If I listen to it before the release date. But it makes a big difference when it gets availables to the mass for free. | |
