Prince's best saxophone player? Who was Prince's best saxophone player was it Eric Leeds, Candy Duffer or Maceo Parker? I'm gonna go with Eric Leeds. He seems to be on all of Prince's greatest songs and he genuinely makes great . Who would you vote for?

During ONA Live in Ghent, Eric Leeds was playing on stage. During the song "Nothing compares 2 U", first Candy did a solo, good classic solo, not the real one though, then Prince put his hand on Eric shoulder and told him something like "Please ... play for an old friend..." can't remember exactlly, then Eric throw the original solo note by note! AMAZING! This was the best moment of the show, so emotional... anyone was there?

Mr. Eric Leeds wins by a mile. No, make that two miles.
Eric's playing took me a little time to fully appreciate. Don't get me wrong, I thought he was good when I first heard him (watching the Prince and the Revolution Live video years ago), but over the years my admiration for his phrasing and tone has grown by leaps and bounds. Eric made me fall in love with the sound of a tenor sax. I rank his contributions to Prince's music higher than any other musician Prince has worked with(yes, even Wendy and Lisa...gasp!).

Eric Leeds had that sultry, sexy sound to his sax playing. Listen to Madhouse 13 and other songs that he plays on. __________________________________________________

Eddie M gets an honorable mention for his killer solo's. But my vote goes to Eric Leeds. Even though it's not a stellar DVD, but go look at the Live at Aladin dvd. Eric has the most memorable solo's through out. It is what it is

Maceo is important for the FUNK ... You ought to thank Maceo for the funk! I don't think the question was who is the better saxophone player. I think that would be Maceo without a doubt. I think it's moreso who actually sounded better with Prince. And I think without a doubt, it's Eric. Eric is to Prince what Maceo was to James.

Maceo is great, A resume with none to compare.
Eric Leeds was an essential back bone of Prince's conversion to a funk band back in 86. I love it when he drops in these days. I got the chance to meet when he toured with Sheila E. I told him I've never heard him have an off night. Blow your horn - skinny white man!

Leeds has those sharp jazz chops; sure, Maseo has the skills, but he doesn't have the same fire he had with James Brown. All you others say Hell Yea!!
