"There's Others Here With Us" gets on my nerves. That was one track I would always skip past when listening to my Jewel Box set.
"All My Dreams" on the other hand, I LOVE. Maybe it's just the pace of the song, and the psychedelic feeling it gives off. I just get the feeling they all ate a big bag of shrooms then went into the studio together.

Grand Progression. Maybe with fuller production, but as is, it just craaaaawls.
Moonbeam Levels is just alright. I love All My Dreams, though I didn't at first.

Never heard Splash.... You're not missing much...I wasn't one of the ones who thought "Splash" was really anything worth praising. Then again, it has that "Wendy & Lisa" feel to it, so you may love it.

Add me up to the list of people who think Extraloveable doesn't live up to the hype. I'm also not so big on Rebirth of the Flesh.
I think songs like All My Dreams and Witness 4 the Prosecution are averything they were said to be and that Wonderful Ass is the most subtly hypnotic song Prince has ever written. [Edited 2/25/06 10:01am]

You disgust me... I 100% dig "all my dreams"...I know where he got the influence from to write that type of verse melody....Its funny to hear him respecting the melodic flavor of a friend of mine... He also offered it to this friend along with another track which my friend did release...I DIG IT !!

Though I didn't care for My Medallion, I dug and still like "Rope of Silicon".

Byron said: You know how it goes...you keep hearing fan after fan rave over some unheard bootleg of Prince's, how it's a travesty that it was never released...how it's on par with his best released shtuff...and your mind and imagination goes wild thinking about how great a song it must be. You invest way too many hours and way too much energy trying to hunt down a bootlegged copy somewhere...all the file sharing programs seem to come up empty, and the closest you get to aquiring a copy is talking in orgnotes to someone who's cousin once played it for them back in '94.
Then suddenly...eureka!! You find a copy of the song on the internet!! Praise be, the holy grail of bootlegged songs is now at your fingertips! Hidden brilliance by your favorite artists is about to soak your eardrums and send you into blissful ecstacy. You double-click on the mp3, your RealPlayer starts up, you hear the first notes come from your speakers...and then... You sit there...blinking...Is that it?? The song ends, and you quickly play it again...because the song you just listened to was beyond ordinary...it can't be the "unreleased brilliance" you've heard about for months...no, years. It can't be the "travesty" that everyone laments is sitting tucked away in Prince's vault. It just can't be... But upon second listen...it is. This bland, ordinary, "Eh"-worthy song is what you've been seeking out for the last 5 years??...This is what everyone thinks is better than anything he's put out since 1991?? So, name the bootlegged song that didn't EVEN come close to living up to the hype once you heard it...lol Anyway..lol...mine would be "Others Here With Us"...I heard SOOO much about this song, how it's so haunting, how it actually "scared" some people to listen to... So what bootlegged song have you heard that fits this description??... (and yes, Deja, this is me signing my death warrant..heh) It took me a while to like "All My Dreams". I just appreciated how well placed the bass line is with that song. It was one of those moments where I wasn't really trippin over it before, then I happened to be chillin at the beach, and it just sort of stood out to me. There are several boots that I don't care for, but no one has built them up for me to the point of disappointment. As far as the older boots are concerned, I've had most of them since the mid-nineties. A lot of these have to be put in the proper perspective. Would the song have worked at the time it was created? Its different if you happen to hear some of these songs years after it was made. [Edited 2/25/06 12:58pm]

All My Dreams- that nasal delivery gets on my nerves! Rebirth of the Flesh- pleasant enough In a Large Room with No Light- it just sounds disorganized I will put my foot down though and say that I feel his 82 output is without peer! A child is born, a child is born...will you maaaaarrrry meeeee...".. That is a pretty stupid line. Granted, Prince has never been a truly great lyricist..though he does have his better moments. However, I think the line and imagery makes perfect sense AND stands well in terms of artistic achievement when viewed along the lines of "Octopus's Garden" (sp?) or "Yellow Submarine." Prince was introduced to a lot of classic Beatles around this time, and I think that it really shows. As do the entire albums ATWIAD and Parade. As much as I admire the Beatles, I think Prince could've smoked them if he kept on that path...the sort of psychedlic pop-rock thing. But, luckily for us all, he shifts gears so frequently. And we weren't subjected to any "Her Satanic Majesties Request" nonsense (sorry, Mick!) from Prince. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I will say this much (and it's proberly not much..lol)...most of the lyrics basically fit the "vibe" of the song rather well, with the two lines of lyrics I've posted above being the exception (especially the giving-Lisa-the-brush link by Wendy...holy bat turds). Had Prince knocked off the nasaly twang in his voice I may personally be able to "get" what everyone else loves about the song, I dunno...lol...but that's one huge barrier, if so.

Some of the famous outtakes are pretty bad -- my versions of Extralovable sounds crappy to me so maybe that's why I don't think it's such a great song. On the other hand, I love Big Tall Wall and my version is of very poor quality.

I think a lot of the hype over unreleased songs is just because they're unreleased. Especially back when we just traded hissy tapes around, it was like "wow, can you imagine if this was on a CD???" I think now with hundreds of outtakes available for download in literally minutes, all you have is the song, instead of the experience.
Anyways - here's mine that did/do not live up to the hype: Turn It Up Something This House Funky Comes (Such a cool title, wasted) Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me Love Thy Will Be Done (SO much better when Prince sang it live with the NPG, although the Sonny T version eats ass) Get Blue
