But with the two first, we are in a resonant consistency, that makes that the album is not definitely a new "Dawdles" Ok. I'm not a major francophone but I did understand most of the review and any reader here should have been able to find how absurd these two translations are! When Ralph wrote "No comment" for each of these trax, he was talking English!!!! ("comment" in French means "how"). How did "TAC" get translated to "Tap" (maybe "tac" means something in French)? "Rave" was not meant to be translated either (and if so definitely not as "dawdles", although that reflects what the album sounded like to me!). The TAC line should probably read something like: The only surprise is that this title doesn't really resonate within the whole of the disk. Raphy said in his article that suprisingly TAC fits very well in the album cuz it thought it would not be the case before listening to 3121. Something interesting in Raphy's review of 3121 is the way he sums up his impressions after the listening session:
"I put everybody at rest, 3121 is a good record, nothing to be ashamed of, and far from TAC. Is it better than Musicology ? Yes, I think so (for those who are obsessed with comparisons) Is it a shock like Prince's best past records when he revolutionized music ? No. Is it a Rave number 2 ? No. Is it a good record to have fun on the dancefloor for our party scheduled on the 19th of march (if we get 3121 in time) ? yes yes and YES" That's what I'm expecting for this album rather than jumping to conclusions like "it is his best stuff since Lovesexy". A good fun album a lot more consistent, coherent and with a far better production than on Musicology and Rave. That's what seems to be logical to expect after having read the first reviews. On a different note, I have read another french review and the guy was basically saying 3121 wad going from Prince at his best to Prince at his worst. Lolita is a terrible tune according to him (it is the 3d person I have read reviews from who says that now). Could you summarize what the poster "doinel" wrote in his/her review? Unfortunately, my French is limited to "Je m'apelle ...", "Je suis fatigué" and "Avez vous un crayon?" at the moment. And the Babelfish translation isn't good for anything than a good laugh, either.

According to him, the album starts and finishes extremely well with two extraordinary tunes. He thinks the 3121 track is amazing and that get on the Boat is incredibly funky. But he thinks that there are a few awful tracks on 3121 as well, Lolita being one of them. He thinks Prince is trying a bit too much to please people who like Dance music and R&B on this album. In fact he has mixed feelings about the album. He goes from one extreme to another. But like all the other reviewers, he agrees this album is a lot more challenging musically than Musicology. This reviewer is not as precise as others have been. Moreover he is acting like a moron, a real show off. You know some guy who "has seen it all". He writes like a journalist from the NME. So even if you were fluent in french you would hardly understand. Now this does not mean he is not right about the album... I'm trying really hard not to get too excited based on some of the user reviews. I don't wanna be disappointed by a good album just because I was expecting it to be great after reading a bunch of rave reviews. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I think just from listening to Fury and Black Sweat that 3121 is going to be a good album. I truly thought that the album was going to be a major disappointment because Te Amo Corazon wasn't really shocking me that much (although now I'm feeling it). There's just going to be lots of variety all over the record just from looking at the various interviews and reviews. I just preordered my copy today! This is how I'd rate the songs I've heard off of 3121:
Te Amo Corazon--Pleasant enough, but not particularly moving. 3/5 Black Sweat--Charming Prince pop song. Nice beat and not a half-bad chorus. Still, I feel like it's a little too short. 3.5/5 Beautiful, Loved & Blessed--I like its positive message, and the music in it is nice, but it fails to deliver anything really memorable. 3/5 Fury--Fun lyrics, fantastic guitar, and a great chorus. A great Prince rock song. 4.5/5 The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

You know, unless you do something extraordinary with drum programming that cannot be done with live drums, just kick it real.

So far, Fury and Black Sweat are better than anything from Musicology.
TAC and B,L&B are on par with Musicology's "decent, but forgettable" level of quality. So, I'm hoping Prince just picked a couple of bad singles, and that the rest of the album is more on the level of Black Sweat and Fury. [Edited 2/22/06 13:13pm] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Yeah I agree, it's not gonna be a radical departure from Musicology, but it is better. Plus it does have the welcome return of some Camille-style electro funk. In through the gates, knock on the door Leave your clothes in a pile on the floor Take ur pick from the Japanese robes and sandals Drink champagne from a glass with chocolate handles Don't u wanna come? 3121 Gonna b so much fun 3121 That's where the party b 3121 U can come if u want 2, but u can never leave!
