News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I know that this topic has probably come up before, but just wondering how much Prince is still involved with the Jehovah's Witness religion? Although there are conservatives/extremists in every religon, most JW's are very strtict when it comes to using certain language, dress, etc.....I was suprised but delighted when I saw the "Black Sweat" video. I'm not one of those (so called) fans that wants Prince to use explicit language, etc., just to mirror his image 20 years ago, but I would love to hear some songs live, that I know he wouldn't do as a JW. Any thoughts?

Man I hope so!!!!! Dam you Larry Grham!!!!!

Just because she uses or says the name makes her a JW. It's more than what comes out of the mouth. Just have to wait and see.

Um, do you think there are people policing Prince at every moment of his life?

JWs are not the org. lol

I can tell you that I am a JW, and am writing an academic paper right now that focuses, in part, on cross-dressing. Should I be disfellowshipped?[/quote]

Hey Mr7...do u remember u were the first saying me that certain choices r a conscience matter?

Personally I dont find NOTHING WRONG about Black Sweat....

I didnt throw aways any Prince album either...I just select the tracks....

Im sure that the Elders of my congregation wouldnt condemn Black Sweat....

I've talked about Prince with some brother and sister...nobody complained....

Mr7 said:

I'm okay with it, but then again I've been listening since '92 (when I was 16) and have since bought every Prince album.

I was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 2004, but I have not seen the need to throw away albums. I just use my own conscience and select tracks accordingly.

There is also a big difference between what I would listen to alone and what I would listen to with others. I always consider the audience so as not to offend others present. They all have their own consciences.

I LOVE 'Black Sweat', but I think you are correct in stating that it may 'raise a few eye brows'. But upon listening properly to the lyrics and watching the video closely (i.e Prince ignoring the advances on an attractive girl) I see nothing wrong with it. Others may disagree though. I just use my conscience.

As to what Prince is doing, I understand he remains one of Jehovah's Witnesses, but I do not know him personally enough to comment. That is his choice and his choice alone.

I hope this helps a little.

Is Prince separating from JW ? Well... being a witness was maybe a way 2 find others point of views and inspiration... leaving all that could be another way of finding new things...

...all that matters is his music, and our freedom of thought and speech. I don't believe in any god and think religions are best ways to wars, so...

By the way, am I the only one 2 think the chair in the video is vagina shaped ???

I haven't bought every album, but I've been a fan since '82. Controversy was the first album I bought.

As you know, P has changed the lyrics to quite a lot of his songs when performing them live... you know, made them more family-friendly... My (totally serious) question to you is: do you still listen to the "raunchy" Prince songs like "Head" "Sister" "Darling Nikki" and stuff like that...? In the original versions I mean?

Must say, I listened to all of those songs a bit last year, while working on my papers about Prince. I have a whole theory that's based on "Sister." But nah, they aren't my favorite songs.

I've been listening to "Temptation" a lot lately... smile There is a swagger to this stuff that is nothing if not religious.

Folks, I've said this about a thousand times, but it seems to bear repeating: not all JWs are massively conservative types. Sure, some are, and just like any religion you get a small, fanatical minority that gives a bad name to the vast majority of the practitioners. I'm not a JW, but I'm friends with several. All of them that I've known have been pretty cool, laid back individuals who listen to all the same stuff I do and watch all the same movies I do. They don't live in caves and refuse to participate in society. Heck, one or two occassionally let a curse word out! (GASP!). Just like any group, they are individuals who follow their own consciences. Many don't agree 100% with "official" church doctrines, but still stick with 'em because they are down with about 90% of it.

They don't go around policing each other. They might intervene if they see a member getting involved in something that they don't agree with, but is that really any different from any other group that cares about its people? Prince isn't being watched 24/7 by some secret JW police force. He makes choices based on his own conscience, and acts accordingly. Despite what many would like to believe, he is making his own decisions, not any ruling body.

You can't pigeonhole people. Sure, ultra-conservative, fanatical JWs certainly exist, but they don't represent everyone that practices that religion.
