Why do you guys Hate Graffiti Bridg/Under the cherry moon so much??

Probably, every Prince fan(Hardcore or not) I talked wit said that the 2 movies ain't all that.

Well, I can't say my openion cuz I haven't watched 'em BUT OF COURSE I'm sure they're great to watch and everything.

Plus watching Prince in the screen is probably enought 4 me. I mean LOL I watched PR 1000,000,000 times and well his acting was LOUZY I mean he was wack 4 real. But seeing him there beside his boys was FUN & ENOUGH 4 me, not to mention his live pre4mance in the movie??? Wheeeooo,,

So yeah as 4 me I'd ENJOY Graffiti Bridge/UTCM if I watched 'em. But what about you guys?? Why do ya'll hate these movies?? sad

According to Prince/Mojo interview, he said: there's a message behind it all and I hope people think about it when they leave. That's the main thing. It's a lot of fun, but there's something to think about when it's over. You know, there's a reason for everything.

Well, thats why I LOVE PRINCE SO MUCH and I do hope ya'll do 4 the same reason.

I mean I'm tired of watching/hearing, nonsense thangs without messages behind 'em.

P.S. If this topic was discussed 1000 times before, then hey I'm sorry. Lawd have mercy LOL I know you guys are sooo damn strict when it comes down to this issue.

I wouldn't say that I hate either of these movies! Good or bad, they capture Prince at that moment in his life. Sure each one has its incredibly corny moments, but each one also has a message if you look . . .

I just look at them sorta like really long music videos, not as serious movies. I'm glad I have both in my collection!! I'm glad I do, even on VHS, because they'll never be re-released, ever.

it was slow and didn't build 2 a climax.the only funny scenes involved the time.and all of the charaters seemed stiff.the final so called battle between morris and prince was a letdown.

Because they are horrible movies..thats why...Just because Prince is a great singer/songwriter and musician it doesnt mean he has any talent creating cinema...

I liked Under the Cherry Moon, it was good...

But I don't like Graffiti Bridge. Prince looks bad in it, the story is awful...And it's pretty bad when the only amusing parts of a movie contain The Time, yes. The only thing that makes Graffiti Bridge worth watching is the music...and even that isn't so great.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. It's subjective, just because you dont like it doesn't mean it's not "ART".

true...but when a film is uninversaly panned and called a vain vanity project and not art...the concensus wins out...the only people who enjoy these two films are those *fams* who are too blinded by their dedication of a man that they cant see things objectively...and once you loose objectivity, you cant be subjective.

I don't hate UTCM or Graffiti Bridge. UTCM was a very funny movie except for the part where Christopher gets shot. It was fun to watch a movie in black and white. And the chemistry between Jerome and Prince was great. They were a really funny team. Prince lokked Sexy as hell and the French Riveria was beautiful. Wonderful music also. It's very romantic. Graffiti Bridge was an is a very Spiritual movie with such a wonderful message and I'll never understand why it tanked at the box-office. Why is it Prince is So Mis-Understood? I know that the problem with the audience was they couldn't stop laughing at Prince. People just couldn't take him seriously they thought him ridiculous or foolish . They keep laughing at the constant posturing and posing. They didn't pay attention to the movie just his facial expressions or his Ass. I guess that's why he's covering -up now. You Bastards made him feel Insecure. And now you want the Old Prince back? Well why didn't you appreciate him more back then? I'll say this for Graffiti Bridge the only thing that was lacking was the fact that Prince didn't talk that much in that film. It was a lot of ESP stuff and music to tell the story. But he always had got ideas and good messages. But just like Marilyn Monroe no body took him seriously. Warner Brothers you really should just give Prince his Masters make him happy, Bank-roll Purple Rain 2. And get on with it. I think Prince and all Artists should own their own Material. It just isn't fair and how would you feel if you couldn't own what you created? Prince and Warners together Again??? There is only 1 Prince let him do it his way. He's right and his fans will buy everything he puts out so he can flood the market. Prince is number 1! Prince is the King of Pop not Michael Jackson!

I AGREE WIT YOU!!!

I listen a lot to Arabic music(Esp the oldies) and man those ppl are the best when it comes to represnt the BLUSY MOOD and the DARKNESS in a song thats why I love 'em so much. But my friend/roommate who have to be a Ruff Ryder hardcore fan say it ain't ART cuz she didn't felt it LOL well look at those teen girlz who's feeling Bitchney/Christina and all these gummy lil' white girls, does they(Teen girls) say that this music is ART just becoz they felt it?? Exactly!!

Because every aspect of them both were weak. Conceptually, directing, writing, etc. Except for some of the music.

The reason I liked UTCM was because it broke down that enigma effect that Prince displayed in his career up to that point. It showed him being real, speaking, joking around...showed him being human instead of the Prince from 1999, Purple Rain etc. Damn near had him eating a plate of greens metaphorically. However him taking a bath with Jerome right there throwing rose petals into th e water was totally uneccessary lol But this part you said right here is comedy:

Oh C'mon, now we know that this brotha ain't Denzel and LOL he don't/well neva act like him. BUt he's a musician who's full of hidden messages and since he translate his messages into songs/videos he wanted to translate 'em into 'his' Movies and thats why I think they didn't get that attention.

Damn, you asked and she told you a reason why lol...we know he isnt Denzel, but thats just the acting part. But she also mentioned the writing and directing which IS a bit flawed some would say. Lets just say that the musicians hidden messages that he wanted to "translate into his movies" didnt go over too well...because of th e acting. directing and writing. Although its not that bad of a movie for what it is.

You're half right.

I liked Under the Cherry Moon. Yeah, it wasn't going to win any Academy Awards (although it should have been nominated for soundtrack) but the movie wasn't bad.

Grafitti Bridge was HORRIBLE. Prince run amok. The sets were cheap. The story was childish. Who in their right mind would believe Morris Day as some pseudo-gangster? The Time as a bunch of thugs? Ugh. Prince's attempt to continue the story told in Purple Rain was abyssmal. And then he let his ego ruin the songs used in the film. There were songs on "Pandemonium" that would have been awesome in the film. Pandemonium, Chocolate, Blondie would have worked in the context of the film. But what does he have the Time use for their battle song? Shake??? I wanted to shoot him myself.

Let's be honest about both of these movies, OK? They're both pretty awful. The fac tthat Prince stars in them does not make tham good movies. Hell, Purple Rain really isn't very good by any reasonable standard. I watched GB again on VH1 for the first time in 10 years and that one makes UTCM look like Citizen Kane.

Face it, as film makers go, Prince is one hell of a musician. I WOULD like to see him do a Willy Wonka remake though. THAT I think would work. These movies DO NOT. If they starred MJ or David Bowie, I doubt any of you would sing their praises on any level.

Face it. They suck.
