Prince doing interviews

Prince had a history of not doing interviews until the late 90s.
ell I guess you could say he did one in the early 90s with Naomi Cambell at Wembley Stadium but he walked out.

I want to know why he wasn't doing interviews before that. DOn't know when he started but he wouldn't do one for The Arsenio Hall SHow. He also was on American Bandstand with Dick Clark. DIck asked him questions and he just made signals with his hand and sucked on a lolipop.
Working up a purple sweat.

In the early days Prince could rely on WB to promote the shit out of a project without him having to do interviews. And in some ways, he could rely on his "mystique" to help sell records. Purple Rain is the perfect example.

Nowdays he's on his own and I think he realises if he wants people to know that he's got a new record out he has to do the majority of the promotion himself. That's why since 1996 he's done so many TV performances and interviews.

Are you talking TV interviews? Because Rolling Stone interviewed him in 1990.

My recollection is that he'd had bad experiences with some of his first interviews (thought he was misrepresented, interviews ending up for sale on cd) and was generally turned off by them.

I'm glad he's doing interviews. He way more interesting then other celebrities whose names I won't mention (Paris Hilton, Britney Spears ooops!)

I did get a little tired (well alot tired) of asking him about the name change and the whole thing with his problem with warner brothers.
