No, "Antichrist Superstar" was certainly a satanist RECORD. Also, Marilyn Manson is a far too complex a character to just label as a mere satanist, but he was in fact a close friend of Anton Lavey and also was promoted by him as one of the ministers in that "church". The reason why I compared the two records in that comment was because both records have a very untolerant lyrical approach. Full of hatemongering based on personal views with the aid of a well established view on world. But I can personally appreciate that inside the art form, it doesn't require for me to write under the lyrical content. I can see it inside the whole aesthetic, rather than as a doctorine I should follow.

Satanism is not a religion, but it certainly is a frictious fundamentalist view on the world. So very much like the JWs in a way.

Not to split hairs of course. smile

Admit it, if Prince's name was not on this cd, everyone one of you masterpiece-ers would have trash it and would have probably never even heard this cd. It would have been placed in the religious section of the cd store, under another name, get your head ot of Prince's ass. Have you bought any other cds while crusing the religious section this year? I didn't think so, this is the only one in your collection, why? Because it has his name on it, Period

do you really believe this BS you have just posted? I know its very subjective, but with TRC prince has finally given me the funk that I have longed for. I know some funksters who do it the other way around: they listen to TRC, get real excited and when they find out its prince, they get shocked. I cant tell you to get your musical taste straight, but I can tell you to give a little tolreance here to the people who DO apreciate the album.

I love that you love this record. A masterpiece as this thread stated, is just purely subjective. Did Pollack paint masterpieces or just throw paint on a canvas? Some people pay 2m a painting, and some would not give $2 to hang it in their garage. Point being, TRC is a group of songs that work well together, not my cup of tea, but who cares, right? I think one of his other releases is a masterpiece, does it matter? No. I don't have to make people think that MY favorite release (the one I consider a masterpiece)should be THEIR masterpiece, to each his/her own.

masterpiece??? never in my book

Hmm, funny. I just had this conversation a few minutes ago with my sister before I logged on here. We were saying that we like "TRC" more & more each day. I actually been liking it more since I went to a "ONA" concert last month. smile

You and your sister BOTH like Prince. I so jealous. My big sister and big brother have always made laugh at me being a Prince fan! They cant stand listening to his music. Thank God i dont live with them anymore...
cry

And I love TRC.. perhaps not one of his best albums, but definately one of the best he has made in ten years!

Thanks, now I know what you mean. I still won't go buy a Michael W. Smith record or listen to a song called 'Jesus Freak' so maybe I'm just not as open minded in that way. I found TRC more offensive lyrically than Antichrist. Maybe that's just me.

The same could be said of Purple Rain. SOTT, Led Zep IV, etc...of course the name and music and image etc go along with a record..not everytime but that logic you applied could be put upon ANY record. Shit..you may not like your mom if she wasnt yours.

You think wrong.

And if it had not been reported widely in cyberspace Prince news about his hobknobbing with JW's, I doubt many people would even be bothered by the stigma of the JW's that the album brings with it. And this stigma was attached before the album was even released, cementing some of the impending feelings about it without even listening to it.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

On the 3 worst albums thread a lot of ppl seem 2 dislike TRC. After my first listenings I must admit I was a little freaked out 2 (and of course the narrating is off-putting!..it just makes me laugh when I hear it!!).

However, if u listen 2 the guitar playing, the drum playing, the melodies, the arrangements and the overall uplifting feel 2 the album and just the sheer originality of the whole concept then I cannot see how it gets so much critcism.

I agree, it definately is a grower, but in my opinion, it ranks up there with the best material he has ever released.

What y'all think?

PEACE.

This sounds like my exact reasoning for TRC being a [i]FLAWED[/i masterpiece.
I wonder what might have happened if an outside prodeucer were around to excise
some Prince's worst ideas onthis project, like the narration, "Wedding Feast"
and the single track index.

:eek:Probably a true masterpiece.
