Since you are tabulating the fans reaction to Tamar I want to say I have no problems with her & look forward to buying her cd when it comes out. And since its very important to your worldview I am white. A bunch of the more vocal fans don't like Tamar & suddenly its the whole Prince world has turned against her. Where is a poll of Prince fans to back up the fans dislike of Tamar? Have the majority of Prince fans been asked their opinion or is this "telling" dislike based only on observation? Good point. It also could be based on the fact that this thread is ABOUT not getting the Tamar hype, so naturally it will attract those who aren't feeling it. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Tony M was trash and TC Ellis was garbage. THEN he tried to come "semi-correct" with Doug E. Fresh and that didn't work and so he FINALLY landed Chuck D. Took him long enough. I wanted to say about my last comment about Prince liking Chaka and Beyonce professionally. Beyonce, I had to change that because she does fit the script even though she is 100% black. I would put her in the same category as Latoya Jackson, another person Prince found attractive, but Latoya had those exotic features that he likes.

Susan Moonsie was a confidant and Vanity was the chick on the side. Vanity didn't like it and would throw fits when he would want to be with Susan while they were on tour. Susan did not have the wild personality to front a group like Vanity 6, Denise Matthews did. He was at the Grammys alone because it was more of a publicity thing for him to attend as he was still new to the business and needed to be seen mixing with industry people. He has always dated more than one girl at a time, going all the way back to before he was even a star. Period. He did not flaunt his relationship with Susnnah Melvoin. He did data Nona. Period. And it's always been my opinion that he married Mayte in '96 because she was pregnant. Goodness knows he didn't stop seeing other women while he was with her. That fairytale about her getting pregnant on their wedding night was just way to convenient and then she coincidentially gives birth two month pre-mature. Please. . [Edited 2/9/06 16:40pm] Whatever your point it's bullshit. Susan was not his woman.I didn't hear it come out of his mouth or hers. The one thing I did read in Jet that he was quoted as saying back when he married MAYTE is "everyone thought I would marry VANITY not SUSAN. If she was woman, I repeat why didn't he have her in the forefront or on his arm instead of Vanity! About Nona Gaye, why didn't he marry her instead of Mayte. Pregnant or not he still married what he really prefers which is non-black women. So what he didn't flaunt his relationship with Susannah, but Susannah is still typical Prince. I repeat. You can believe any fantasy bullshit you want. From DMSR - Prince: The Frist Decade by Per Nilsen " ....No alcohol, no drugs, nothing", Bobby Z confirms. "He worked. He indulged himself in the music. He played music 12 hours a days and had some girlfriends, that was about it." Prince was often accompanied by Susan Moonsie...whom he met in 1979. Prince took a liking to Susan right away and a romance developed. They were engaged sometime in 1981. "Susan was a very sweet, very intelligent girl, says Roy Bennett. "Prince had a lot of respect for her and they had a great, very close relationship." The paragraph goes on to talk about how she know he would have other girlfriends and while she didn't like it she didn't make a scene over it. And how other guys did not try to date her because she was with P. From Prossessed - by Alex Hahn "The lyrics to "private Joy" were directed to Susan Moonsie, a long time friend who he began dating after the Dirty Mind Tour. Prince had met her in high school and even spent some nights on her family's couch before the Anderson family took him in. When she emereged as his principal romantic interest in late 1980, his associates found her to be an intelligent, gounded, unmanipulative person..." Regarding "When Does Cry" - "The lyrics tell of romantic loss and abandonment, were somethng of a farewell to Susan Moonsie, Prince's girlfriend of several years." And while there seems to be some descrepancy as to when he actually me the woman it is known that he did date her. Anyhoo. Believe what you want. . Im sorry but Prince RARELY picks good proteges...and this Tamar Chick is no exception...It's not that she cant sing but in my opinion she just sounds so unoriginal...Like i hear her and CANT distinguish her.... she just doesnt have a voice that pops out at me and makes me wanna listen and I could find other female artists' CDs who could make a better effort at being "great soulful music artists"... why waste my money on her when i can pick up a way better India Arie, Erykah Badu, Floetry,Heather Headley, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill,or Goapele album ??.... I mean seriously would anyone take her seriously or ask for her albums if she wasnt with Prince, for some reason she reminds me of those people from AMERICAN IDOL....like Fantasia and Kelly Clarkson.....UNTIL SHE comes out playing an instrument like a Sheila E or bringing down the house with a funktastic style and energy like Nikka Costa, or making me "feel" her music like a Chaka Khan/Lauryn Hill...I won't be impressed
Im seriously beginning to think he picks these people just so the audience will see how much better he is...kinda like how you go out with your ugly friend so people will notice how much better looking you look in comparison?? Oh and Imma young black chick so nothing racist about my opinion [Edited 2/10/06 18:28pm]

Prince seems to like helping young women break into the buisness. He seems very nurturing and fatherly that way. Not to say he doesn't have his own agenda like we all do but maybe he just enjoys helping a girl and making her dreams come ture.

Yarite. I mean, I love Prince and think he's generally a great guy, but let's keep things real here. I think you're being either very naive or very deluded to truly believe he's helped all these hot young things with their careers in a "fatherly" way, or because he's just naturally nurturing. Please. [Edited 2/10/06 21:29pm]

I've known OF Ashley for years and her reputation preceeds her, that and her overbearing mother. I'm told now with her involvement with Prince, she has escalated into B**** in all capitals. Ask Frank McComb how she single handedly ousted him from Prince's band. She may be 27 but she has the teeth of a healthy barracuda. The sources come from techs, musicians, and bystanders. It always amazes me how the nasty ones get the gold. As the saying goes.. what goes around....

dewalliz said: Because she is beautiful and she can sing. She is not groundbreaking and I am not denying that but she is the best protege that Prince have since Jill Jones. I think with the proper promotion, she is going to do well particularly in the urban or r&B audience.
I agree with you whole heartly it is a very positive uplifting song. I downloaded it from the NPGMC site and took it to work and let a few select people listen to it, who I know appreciates REAL music and not this crap that is on the radio nowadays. They loved it and was very inspired by the song as I was-- and it gave them an opportunity to see the "Purple One" in a different light meaning he is singing about Christ and not about this JW stuff he has been practicing. If you listen to the song it is embracing Christianty beliefs which is what Prince believed in the beginning so maybe he has abandoned this JW stuff. He mentions on the song about the blood Christ shedded on calvary for him/her---this song is going to be on Tamar album and his album also according to the email I received from the NPGMC. I will cop both of these albums!!!! I think she has great vocals if she improves on her range she would be awesome. I am glad he picked a beautiful African queen with a great soul to be by his side!!! Stop hatin' I am glad Mani is out of the picture and Larry Graham
I fucking love her performance as a backup singer too and she was getting down with the twins. I do like Beautiful, Love, and Blessed and I am still trying to remind myself it is hers, not a Prince song. It is uplifting and also very positive. Hell her song blows out the crap that it is out there today. Unlike half of the people on the org, I am going to buy her new album which comes out on May 7th? Or May 2nd? I am spreading the word about her to my peeps on myspace and they are digging her. I just hope Prince is going to treat this sista right and not end up screwing her like he did with Jill. But it seems like for now he is very exciting about her and also giving her time to shine. I don't know either how her and Prince connected yet but we are going to surely find out.
