I find it interesting that out of all of Prince's weak singing proteges, the Vanity, Appolonias, Carmen Electra, Mayte, that here we have a woman who can sing and some of you are dissing her voice and saying she has no talent.
When asked, no talent in comparison to who, some of you came up with ridiculous examples like Wendy, Lisa and Sheila E who are more instrumentalists than singers and worse yet, Jill Jones who I have not seen in over a decade. It's one thing to not like the music, but I believe those who claim she's untalented has something personal against her. Just for that reason I really hope she does extremely well with her debut and I'm going to be front and center to support her every way.

Suspicion, accusation and rumor about whoevadafuk shes boning speaks to the issues of the suspicious mofos talking about it. Why is this dark skinned African featured Black woman immediately viewed as Prince's side pussy and yall didnt say jack about women he had doing everything from simulating head to dancing in they drawers to beats he made up in 5 minutes? Almost all of his other proteges learned to perform after he put em in the game. Here we got a bonafide artist and all yall can come w/ is whats the big deal about her? Wth was the big deal about any of the rest of em? Hidden, latent racism, quadruple standard bs as usual.
That's what I'm talking about! People saying she can't sing. Then who can then?

Has anybody ever heard of people just singing. She wasn't that sloppy and might be able to have more focus but you could tell her singing means something to her And how could she not showcase her ability on national TV?! . People who say she has no talent are just dumb people who haven't seen her live (and no that crappy SNL performance (crappy compared to the great shows she did prior that week) doesn't count...) and are judging her on a 4 minute performance, that's like judging Sheila E.'s drumming skills by just listening to her play drums to 4 minutes of "Purple Rain"... Quite retarded... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

Mr. Doorkeeper,
There is really no need to try to "school" me on the basic tools of sentence structure. I am more than capable of writing complete, and good sentences thank you very much. Futher more I was answering a question from a prior statement, so it does have structure. Now as for you.....well I dont need someone with a GED(if you have that) trying to tell me how to write. Have a nice day! thedoorkeeper said: CleopatraJones said: Because she is good and the girls got talent.Tell me, if Tamar was a lighter skin black female, or white, I bet you would like her more
Repeat after me: sentence structure sentence structure sentence structure Neither one of your sentences is complete or makes sense. The first one is incomplete & has no point and your second sentence can't decide if it is a question or a statement. Here I will correct them for you so you can see your errors: You all are hating on Tamar because she is good & the girl has talent. Tell me - if Tamar was a lighter skin black female or white would you like her more? No need to thank me. "Put a glide in your stride, and a dip in your hip, and come on to the mothership"

OdysseyMiles said: Has anyone here thought that maybe, just maybe, Prince may be working with Tamar because she is a decent singer/songwriter and he enjoys collaborating with her? We haven't heard her entire album yet, so perhaps the simple yet obvious answer may be all there is to it.
What you're saying is not completely incompatible with what I said earlier. But the fact remains that even if Prince is collaborating with Tamar for purely artistic reasons, he has to overcome two major perceptions displayed prominently on this thread: 1) Tamar is nothing more than Prince's latest talentless f-buddy that he will soon get tired of. and 2) Prince is incapable of writing and producing a popular or even "good" album for himself much less another artist. Judging from some of the responses here and elsewhere Prince has a major challenge ahead to change people's minds. And to those saying Tamar needs vocal training, she attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, the same type of school featured in the movie and tv show "Fame". Here is her student profile from the Houston Chronicle website: http://www.chron.com/cont...ofile.html

She's alright. She has talent in her area. But to be honest I think I'll always prefer Prince's sexier female protegees. Even if their talent is less I just loved how Prince could take a woman and turn her into Vanity, Apollonia, Carmen and Mayte. He really knows what a sexy woman is. I love sexy people. Some people find that shallow but I don't. I think a truly sexy person is quite facinating.

I'm not trying to be harsh with you or anything but a fair comparison would have been to compare her to other female "so called" vocalists Prince has worked with: Susannah Melvoin, Mayte, Cat, Carmen, Appolonia, Vanity, Susan, Brenda, Jill Jones. Notice I did not mention Rosie Gaines or Boni Boyer as they also played keyboards. Jill Jones would wipe the floor with her... As someone who has seen them both live Jill Jones is the stronger vocalist by a mile, doesn't mean Tamar isn't good... Neversin. [Edited 2/6/06 17:32pm] This is the single funniest quote of this site to date. Of all the proteges Prince has ever worked w/ there has not ever been this many people up in arms and judgmental about it. What is the one thing thats different about this artist? Her complexion and her features. A whole lot of it is Prince's fault cuz we've know for years his preferences and his ridiculing Black women ie. Christopher Tracy's flashback, his complexion tripping w/ Tricky and his singing "surrounding yourself w/ all the wrong faces" in the Holy River video while showing a afro featured woman. All examples of his own issues but in recent years contrary winds have blown. He realised that he owned none of his music, and additionally was contractually bound to continue to work for snakes who took advantage of him as a kid. He wrote Slave on his face and changed his very name to free himself from the subtle nuanced racism that had controled him w/out his knowledge. He found religion w/ a mentor, a Black man, who pioneered his favorite music, didnt want anything from him, and related to his situation. His web site highlighted an African featured Katrina victim for months. His appearances, band, musical focus, and public interviews have all been far blacker than the elusive, svengali of the 80s. In other words; Prince grew up. Dont look now but hes highlighting an unknown African featured, dark skinned black woman w/ no sexual overones or agenda. People are pissed. Real talk. At last the clouds have parted to show the true sky. deal w/ it. The title of this thread is racsist, mysogenistic, ignorant bullshit. But if I break down what it really is, I'll be banned. On the same day we're burying Coretta Scott King I suggest yall get ready to accept identifyable, unapologetically Black people cuz we are coming stronger than ever. [Edited 2/7/06 21:59pm]

You’re not coming strong with this lame ass attempt at race bait. You were the first one to mention anything about race or color, check the thread. Few of us even care about Tamar, much less her skin color; I just want to know why Prince is promoting her so hard. One can only wonder about your perceptions on race when you’re willing to interject Coretta Scott King in a music thread about Tamar.

I never knew it was racist to not get excited about an artist of a particular skin color. I don't think anyone is saying she sucks...maybe they're just tired of protoges, which is the case for me. I'd be more likely to get into her if she weren't a protoge, in all honesty... Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Race bait? Theres a 400 year history to racism in the US where this artist hails from. His entire career has revolved around race. Who are you kidding w/ the smokescreen?
