Call My Name vs. Adore

Okay, maybe I'm confused. Not long ago, I made a discussion topic where I proclaimed Adore to be THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME.

But...

I just finished listening to Call My Name 5 straight times. I've loved it ever since the first time I heard it, and believe that it is indeed a Prince classic.

Adore is the much more well-known song, and it's a sheer gem. But which song do you all prefer? Call My Name is nothing short of brilliant as well.

If you're like me, you go through phases. You'll listen to Sign' for a week, then Batman, then maybe the Symbol album or oldies but goodies like Prince, or the Controversy CD... or maybe pop in Come or New Power Soul.

I still place Adore on a pedestal, but I'm in a Call My Name phase.

What's the pick if you're on a deserted island?
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Call My Name should never be in the same discussion with Adore.

Yeah.

"Adore" has a sharper sense of humor and is sexier and more energetic. "Call My Name" has been just "blah" to me since the 10th or so time I heard it.

Nothing beats Adore, but I still like Call My Name very much. Propably my fave from Musicology. Good songwriting, good musicianship.

of course it should be in a discussion. it is just a matter of opinion. not everyone has the exact same taste, or thinks alike. heaven forbit we all think alike wink

some people prefer adore, some people prefer call my name...it is just strokes, for different folx wink , doesn't mean one is necessarily "better" than the other. i mean, who has the final say on what is better?

You guys are right on the money. Call My Name is overworked. It lacks the little touches of genius that pepper Adore E.G.: rambling on about his ride and being a terminal case in such a beautifully romantic song; it shouldn't work but it does - > magic

Adore is truly inspired and call my name sounds a little less inspired

Adore is classic Prince. Call My Name is an imitation of classic Prince.

Adore by a landslide.

lol I'd give "Adore" maybe a 7. "Call My Name" gets a 5 when I'm generous.

Call my name is indeed a great song. Very Prince. But Adore?? I don't know..Call my name has alot to live up to if you are comparing it to Adore. cool

IMHO "Call My Name" isn't even the best slow song on Musicology... Give me the yearning blues of "On the Couch" instead.

"Adore" is the stick by which everything else is measured. To me the only thing that is truly comparable (in terms of musical composition, lyrical quality, and emotional honesty) is "Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother, Wife."

Adore - 10
FLMSW - 9.5
CMN - 6

Give me Nothing Compares 2 U over all of them.

I'd love to hear Prince do a really cooked up version of this.

It's his song. Why has he never released it...??
Shut up already, damn.

I say Adore first. Then I'd put "Insatiable" next, because I always considered Insatiable to be "Adore Pt. 2".

Call My Name is gorgeous. He should be proud of it. I prefer it over Adore.
Adore is more youthful, edgier.

Call My Name is a strong ballad no question

but Adore is significantly stronger on so many levels, musically, & certainly lyrically

don't really understand why some folks hate on Call My Name so much because it was a really good record but your talking good vs classic
