Folks keep orging me asking if I saw P on SNL and what did I think. P THREW DOWN Hard on Fury. I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but it was good to see P tearing it up on guitar. He was calling down Hendrix like a mutha! I know ya'll can't be surprised, P's been getting down on rock guitar as a pro since 1978. What he did on Saturday, P could do in his sleep. Backwards. I liked the second song too, especially on the breakdown when he was promoting his new albu. That section was HELLA funky! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Check your pulse... you may very well be dead... Check your blood sugar, I think you've exceeded your purple Kool Aid allowance. Or maybe you've never seen Prince live. But as someone else said, what he did on SNL is like breathing for him. For HIM. Of course most artists could only wish to do that on their best day. That said, yeah he did great guitar solos. But anyone who's been following his career for more than 2 minutes already knows that and has heard him rip it up before, and IMO much more excitingly (Rock Hall of Fame, NAACP, even Grammy's 2 years ago). The breakdown on BLB was pretty cool. That and his expressoins at the closing scenes were the best part of the entire show. Then again, to be fair, maybe I"m jaded cuz I saw the Tamar show live 2 days earlier and already saw the shtick with the "leave the guitar palying itself on the ground" (and I think he's done it before sometime too?) You know being critical or not just gushing doesn't mean you have to turn in your fan club membership!

I was expecting him to perform Black Sweat and I was dissapointed that he did not.
I'm not sure if I like Fury. It might be one of those songs that grow on me. I am still looking forward to the CD, though.

Had a wonderful weekend in Vegas, and Prince had me smiling from Saturday night until, well, I'm still smiling. Well, Prince and the fact that a football team that I bet on actually won.
Back to the DVR. Time for one more Prince fix, and then sleeeeep.

I saw the twins live up close two days earlier at the show Prince did with Tamar. Their bodies are in great shape. As I already said in another forum, they even have matching treasure trails so maybe I was a bit too close to the stage.

Well, to that part of the viewing audience that doesn't post on prince.org, alot of folks haven't followed Prince's career for more than 2 minutes in a long time. see: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176688 Even folks who are casually familiar with his career tend to underrate his guitar prowess. The majority of his radio hits that the general public is familiar with don't feature amazing guitar solos. Basically, imo, every so often its good to see him remind a new generation that he's not just the weird dude who used to have a symbol for a name. . [Edited 2/6/06 10:56am]

I truly understand what some of you ment by saying that you were disappointed in the performance. For me, Prince ripped it up as usual. I look at it this way, there is not a single other performer out these days that can even get me to watch SNL, let alone enjoy it. That's just me.

Man, EVERYTHING about the first performance is dead on perfect to me! He looked great, he sounded FANTASTIC, the song kicked ass (I'm a sucker for the bridge...hits hard!), the lightning was just right and very fitting, his guitar licks get better with each solo (man, the last one before the ending break down is HOT!).
Second one is not as good, but that's not meant as criticism in any way. I love that song, too. I don't find it dull at all.

I think Prince needs to start an affiliates program with NPGMC. If one more person that's not normally a fan calls me gushing about his performance on SNL and wants to know when and where they can get his new album, I'm gonna want a commission!
I am happy to hear all the positive feedback he's getting though, reminds me of the good 'ol days!

Fury was HAWT! BL&B was good. Like someone said above, its a Prince song that someone else sings. It has beautiful lyrics. I kinda wish he kept it. Can't fuggin wait for March 21st and the tour. ITS ON!!! *sips* read the lyrics edit. [Edited 2/6/06 10:44am] Shake....shake, shake, shake.

My post above dissappeared was blank for some reason so I'll just try and recap briefly.
I re-watched SNL thanks to HQ just now, cuz I thought maybe I missed something. BLB is growing on me. I like the guitar solos on Fury but I still think I've seen him do much better. I think I was dissappointed because: 1. I was so excited and my hopes were so high to be blown away, which is what I normally expect from Prince. 2. I had just seen the live Tamar show 2 days earlier, so SNL kinda paled in comparison (and he did that thing with the guitar on the floor then so it wasn't new to me). 3. I don't like rock, and that's what Fury sounds like to me. In fact, it doesn't really sound like a "Prince song", rather, something like a generic rock act would do (albeit with an amazing lead guitarist). I'm used to Prince songs having something innovative about them (the lyrics, the sound, the production, the groove etc.) ALl that said, Prince is still the artist I admire and respect the most (well him and Sheila ). And I still say his faces and actions in the closing sequences were AWESOME! That was the Prince I know and love And he didn't look uncomfortable to me at all.

Any of ya'll catch the little tension between P and Alec Baldwin? Not tension per se, but it was a little awkward. Can anybody say Kim Bassinger? If u got it on tape, watch it again. Alec and P are standing right next to each other. Check P's face when Steve mentions Alec at the end when their all standing around. Alec keeps his head down when Steve thanks Prince. P was looking like "Damn, Alec, don't be mad that I hit them drawers!" Alec was like "Damn, this little short motherf^%$er! What did Kim see in him anyways!". I watched all these performances (in video) and I think Fury is almost in the same level of Rock and Holl Hall of Fame (my personal fave) performance. Grammy´s was visually nice, but not musically. NAACP had some great moments, specially in the end (when he plays bass and when he plays Santana medley with Sheila). [Edited 2/6/06 12:03pm]

"OMG, did you see how Prince stood next to Steve Martin who's in a movie with Beyonce who was once in a band with Tamar who is now singing with Prince... I do recall a few articles waaay back when saying that Prince wasn't on Baldwin's favorite person's list. Something about Prince sending Kim flowers or something on her birthday after she and Alec were an item. That could make things a little awkward even now. . [Edited 2/6/06 12:26pm]
