I JUST SAW MY HERO!

Wow!!! eyepop mushy cloud9

So I'm in the Times Square area walking over to the Nokia Theater to see if there are still tix availble for tonight's show. I had come to find that they sold out. You know, you had the typical scalpers and hustlers offering me deals, but I don't trust them. So I said "screw it, I'm out". But something or some voice in my head told me to walk over to the next block. So I did. And as I was walking towards the Broadway area, a security guard stops me. Then I see a black limo pull up about a good 8 or 9 feet away. Obviously, someone important has arrived. Out comes this little person surrounded by a bunch of guards. He was wearing a turquoise outfit and an orange scarf and he scurrily walked into the back of the theater. IT WAS MY HERO!!!!! woot!

All I could do as he walked by was this: headbang Well, not the headbanging part because my face just did this: omg

But that made my night right there. Also, this couple that walked by got stopped by security too and was just as amazed as me. Turns out they were visting NY from the UK, and they had the fortune of seeing a great artists already. It was a trip for all of us. So I won't see him at tonight's show, big deal. At least I did see him. I would've taken a picture because I had my camera with me, but I didn't want to run the risk of it being confiscated.

OK, vultures.....

How cool! I think I saw him too on the Musicology tour. There were lines outside the stadium and I had taken my 12 year old son with me because I wanted him to see what real music sounds like and a black limosine pulled up and what appeared to be a very small person got out and was surrounded by larger people. My son says I was seeing stuff and it was not Prince, but to this day, I still say that it was the PURPLE ONE. wink razz wink

You should have taken his picture and sued his ass if he tried to confiscate it off of a public street.

Cool story though.

Exactly what legal right does a security guard have to stop someone walking in a public street? I would have said "excuse me, fat-arse, I have right of way. You and the smurf can just wait for a gap in pedestrian traffic before exiting your vehicle, like everyone else. Thank you so much!". Then maybe Prince would visit me in hospital.

Someone tried that already and that got countersued. Stop giving out bad advice.

I am not famous or rich and I don't want anyone taking my picture on the street. It is not cool.

Prince will clearly lose that case if he hasn't settled out of court already. Do you think Prince is more important and has more rights then the other celebrities who can't escape the press and Paparazzi? Public figure in a public place gives him NO rights what-so-ever and if you don't know this you are dumber then I think. Actually even non-public figures have no rights in a public place as evidenced by all the cameras cities install in downtown and high crime areas.

ps, y'all

can't we just enjoy NWF's story?

do we really have to ruin it by turning it into a re-cap of the camera confiscation ordeals?

I know he mentioned it, but I don't think that was the point of his story.

I was gonna say disbelief then I remembered where I was and how much folks like to piss on people's parades here...

Fun! More importantly, did he have heels on? giggle I've only seen the feller in concert. People act like if you live in Minneapolis you're gonna run into him at Blockbuster video and in the frozen foods section. No such luck!

I ran into Maceo Parker at the grocery store after a prince concert, I kid you not. Looking through the ready made sandwiches.

ask your question to John Lennon...OOPS..you can't. Someone got too close to him on a public street and killed him.

If I'd see him on the street accidentally I'd probably drop down on my knees, cry hysterically and insist he'd listen to my life story and then I'd give him my CD and he could listen to it and perhaps e-mail me later that he really likes it cause I'm just doing it just to pay you back for the inspiration you have given me as a human being and an awesome musician and not just in order to get your personal e-mail address so I could taunt you.

Does anyone with actual legal knowledge know the answer to these related questions:

1. Is it legal to take pictures of peopleon the street without their permission?

2. Does it matter if they are public figures or not?

3. If it IS legal, what right does a star/or non star have to confiscate your propoerty/camera????

4. If it IS legal to take hte picture, don't you have to get the subject to sign a release? Models have to sign releases and get paid for their likeness. Even "regular people" have to sign a release before their pic can be publsiehd in an advertisment etc.

5. If it's not legal to take someone's picture, how do paparzzi get away with it? Is it just that it's legal to take PUBLIC figures' pictures?

6. How do newspapers publish crowd photos if it's not legal to take pics or use them without releases?

a. It's very legal to take a picture of whoever in a public space without their permission.

b. They have no right to confiscate (steal) anything.

I think in the past they got away with it because they'd just take the film out of the camera and it wasn't worth it to pursue trying to pursue some sort of legal action for the average person. You gonna hire a lawyer to get your $5.00 worth of film back?

Now with digital cameras taking the the card isn't enough, so you had the incident a couple of years ago where they took that dudes camera (what ever happened with that anyway? Probably settled). Now that could motivate someone to go to court.

Since Prince has had bad press over that kind of silliness in the recent past, I'd say go for it. I'd be surprised if his security hasn't changed their policy to just asking you to stop.
