3121--Get ready for the backlash It happens everytime. Here we are on the cusp of a new Prince album. Many fans are trying to be skeptically cool, but most Prince fans are geeked with some form of anticpation for the new album and all the hype.
The album will hit and the fans will be split down the middle. The reactions will hit both extremes: Some will proclaim "3121" as a masterpiece no matter what. Others will claim that Prince hasn't been the same since 198whatever and that they are gonna "quit Prince for good." I am just happy that the dude is promoting his albums properly again. I like seeing him around despite the pending split of opinions amongst Prince fans that happens with every new Prince album. It's been this way since at least 1985. Every Prince fan has their own expectations that the Kid must live up to. Hell, I bet some Prince fan in 1980 was DAMN PISSED when "Dirty Mind" didn't sound like "I wanna be your lover". [Edited 1/29/06 13:53pm] "New Power slide...."

Life is always some goodie coming around the next corner... the next big game, election, release by some recording artist, clothing fashions... some new commodity to run up our credit card debt, etc..
isn't it? When are we ever going to be happy here and now? Or at least be content with what we already have?

yes, it is funny
"he is advertisting his album again"? you know what that means? Newbies Arg. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

How many times do you plan on starting a variation of this thread? Past history would suggest dozens.

This is always the fun part. I'm sure 3121 will be average at best. But every release there's gonna be somebody who goes out of their way to shit all over the new album.

If I see a thread started by skywalker I avoid it becasue I know what its going to say but if I accidentally click on it I let her know how old her act is. She has started or posted variations of this same thead at least 50 times. [Edited 1/29/06 14:54pm]

Would you rather it goes like this?
"Prince releases new record. Everyone immediately declares it "his best since SOTT" and we all talk about how great it is everyone is in agreement."

It's amazing that anybody still cares about his new material. Name a mainstream artist that still challenges his audience and himself after 27+ years making music. As a lifelong fan I appreciate the creativity and work ethic. The journey has been worth the mix of brilliance and erratic experiments. You can say what you want about Prince, but he has always stayed true to his vision and intense dedication to his genius and craft. People romanticize Jimi, Sly and many others but do they have Prince's catalog? 30+ albums and still going strong.

You're probably right about the fans being torn between greatness and average with this release. I'm just happy that somebody with the skills to wipe the floor with most of these contemporary "artists" of today will be competing amongst them on the mainstream radar. I think it's a treat... Ooh, little darlin' if you're

BTW how do you know I am a woman? I thought I saw a shadow creeping around my window last night at bed time..... Anyways, thanks for checking on all of my past posts and possibly my profile. It makes me feel special. Such a sweetheart you are. "New Power slide...."

[Edited 1/29/06 13:53pm] great points and you know it's going to happen. and if it doesn't happen immediately then this time next year people who liked the CD will complain of how uninspired, plastic and mediocre they think it is. we might as well get ready for it. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'm also just happy to see the man promoting a new record, and really putting some muscle behind it.
I'm optimistic for the new record, even though Musicology was weak sauce - But the man still pingpongs stylistically from record to record, so I'm sure 3121 will be an entirely different animal. And in that regard, it's a sure bet that I'll like it more than the previous album.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I know I will be happy to have a new album to check out.
I know I will feel his lyrics ain't up to standards he should/could be at spiritually. I know it will kick ass. I know I could be happier with the messages contained on the albume. I Realize he is still ahead the curve. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
