maybe back in the rave era i'm not saying musically (cuz we know what the rave era was like...) but he just seemed more... experimental with the rock sound 
maybe it'd work now... but then if he did we'd be back here complaining about how uptight he looked in a suit beside the peppers in their tube socks

Prince is my favourite artist and they r my favorite group, I have been hard core chili perppers since Mothers milk and Subway to Venus. I am inmaging a ballad with Prince and Anthony sharing vocals, fast for Prince, slow for them. Fleas bass dominates it, but u have Princey jangly bass loops overdubbed on to it, the vocals are pure explicit sex.
