There seems to be a lot of people on prince.org that seem to hate, dislike, and degrade PRINCE. Why IN THE WORLD are you here? What I mean is - If the majaroty of the issues and opinions that you have with PRINCE are negative, then why not move on? Seems like a lot of wasted energy to me..... ** I also find it interesting and sometime humorous that some of these people make comments about what they think PRINCE did or was doing. It's like these people share the same MIND as HIM...Here is an example of what I'm talking about. (nothing personal about the person who posted it, just an example) His most over rated album. Sounds like he recorded it on a quiet weekend because he couldn't think of anything better to do. Its fun but, despite its reputation, its not particularly funky ( unless you're very VERY white ). I've heard all the explanations, official and otherwise, about why it was never released but I'm sure its all bullshit. The guy realized it just wasn't that good. Of course he was never going to admit that that was the reason so we get all the "it was to dark", "he was reminded of his own mortality on an ecstacy trip" rubbish. I LOVE "The Black Album" as well as his 90's work and YES "EMANCIPATION", "NEW POWER SOUL", "RAVE In2 The JOY Fantastic", "The Rainbow Children" and "MUSICOLOGY". Thank GOD for PRINCE! ** 1 LAST thing...I persoanly know "2" people on the "org" that live in Southern California...not gonna name names but they have been on here sooooo many freakin' times putting down PRINCE and his recent work ESPECIALLY "NEW POWER SOUL" declaring it bad, not worthy, lot his edge, bland etc., etc.. ( paraphrasing ) Here's the "BEAUTY"....U ready??? These same "haters" have been at many PRINCE shows and in line for tickets (Key Club and Pantagious Theater in LA just to name a few ) JAMING and I mean JAMING songs from "New Power Soul" and just having a party with it in front of others in line. I onced called them out on it and they said "being on the I hate Prince and his new stuff now" bandwagon is something they do on the org. Reminds me of Rick Moranus in Space Balls getting caught playing with his dolls in his room. PRINCE is INCREDIBLE because HE still makes MUSIC, ALL kinds of music his way. I'm sooooo freakin' glad that everything he created after "Purple Rain" was not a copy and sounded like it. In fact I am sooooo glad that I can pick out any one his cds 70's, 80's 90's and 00's and listen to something different. His body of work is truly amazing and special. This was just something that puzzled me, that's all. It's not meant to offend or "flame" anyone.... Love4One Another And LONG LIVE PRINCE! [Edited 1/13/06 17:33pm] [Edited 1/13/06 17:34pm] Dude... we like get U'r fucking point. Calm down. That's just their opinion.Deal with it! Damn, that's what everybody else is doing.

The only thing that pisses me off about forums and people in general are people who post opinions but think they are facts or the ultimate truth and can't see another viewpoint

I agree. I admit I do that sometimes. You're right! I'm not even going to lie.

There is really hateful stuff posted about the guy in this forum, about his music, about his wife, about his friends, yet we have to show respect towards one another. That's the part I don't get.

That "hater" you quoted was me . Praise the lord, my 15 minutes have arrived!
I try not to respond to posts from "hater" haters because I figure its good for the kids let off a little steam after their little purple Jesus has been blasphemed against. But since I have been used as the prime example of those who hate Prince's cookie and marshmellow filled guts, I should say something. Firstly, a word of advice for the "lovers", simply saying something is hypocritical doesn't mean it is (I know that's a shock to many of you). None of the examples given demonstrate hypocrisy, they demonstrate your DESIRE to believe that any criticism of Prince has to be disingenuous, nothing more. I'm not going to specifically address the flaws in what passes for reasoning in these non-argmunts because if they're not screamingly obvious to you then it's going to take several years of remedial logic classes to get you up to speed - and I ain't got that kinda time. Now, I know this isn't true for everyone, but I'm guessing that ON AVERAGE ( I just know someone is going to overlook those two words and say "Hey! I don't fit into your stereotypes, man!") the "lovers" are younger than the "haters". On the whole they've discovered and, quite rightly, fallen in love with Prince's 80's work as a single completed body of work rather than experiencing it as it evolved at the time. As such they're happy when Prince releases something like "Black Sweat" with linn drums and falsetto vocals because that's what they love about Prince, that's what Prince IS to them. What they may not realise is that growing up as Prince was recording his greatest work, experiencing the anticipation and excitment of the release of Purple Rain, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT and Lovesexy gives you a different prespective, not a better one, just different. To have experienced Prince as a growing artist, constantly evolving and challenging his audience, to have had uttered "Oh sweet jesus, WTF is he doing NOW!!?" while watching the first music video from a new album ( as I did with AWTIAD ) is exhilerating. The word "Prince", to me, means more than just a weird little guy who makes great music, it means a true artist who had the courage to push the boundaries, who wasn't afraid to be ridiculed and laughed at, who was setting musical trends rather than following them, who sought to challenge himself and his audience, someone who never even looked back to see his laurels let alone rest on them. So when he releases music that harks back to his glory days or attempts to keep up with the latest fatuous trends, I'm disappointed - and I say so. It's his fault, he made me that way - the high standards I have are, or used to be, his standards and I'll continue to uphold them even if he won't. Now, maybe its unrealistic to expect a senior citizen like old Principoo to continue to produce challenging and original music in the sunset of his life. Well, after Rave I would have agreed, but TRC, NEWS, ONA showed me that there's still plenty of new ground to be explored. Every piece of commercial autopilot Prince pop is therefore a wasted opportunity, not something to be applauded. I'm not saying my view is THE correct one, just a VALID one. And, shockingly, free from hypocrisy or hidden agendas. Also remember that I, like alot of "haters", have been through a stage of worshipping everything the little guy touched, even though, in hindsight, some of it was crap. That's why I feel no animosity toward the starry-eyed fundamentalist fans, though I'm called a "hater" and a "hypocrite" - I was once you and I know that....bwahahah....bwahaha...BWAHAHAHAHAHAAA!...I am your future!....BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAhahahahhaaa..... Peace. SDN PS Prince always will be one of the greatest live performers around so, even if he never again releases anything worth listening to. I will still always see him live when I get the chance - thats not hypocrisy either. PPS I still don't like the black album. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

as others have said , theres a few different types of people who are referred to
in this thread a) people who express an opinion on an album they dont like aren't haters , they're just fans who don't like/love absolutely everything that Prince has done , that's fine . When I first started using the internet around 1996 I'd only been a fan for 5 years but AT THAT POINT I LIKED OR LOVED every album Prince had put out , up until 1996 , without exception . When I came onto the internet and saw that there were people who hated everything Prince had done since 1988 I was surprised and like maybe a few newbies on here now I wondered why the hell these people were posting on a Prince fan site if they didnt like him anymore , and yes the answer generally was because they had a huge appreciation for his music in the 1980s . I've now been on the net for 10 years and in that time Prince has released a few albums I'm not overly thrilled with , mainly instrumental albums but also Musicology and some others . Chances are the longer you stay a Prince fan the more likely you'll encounter 1 or more albums of his , whether old or new , that doesnt excite you as much as most of his others , thats only natural , and people are perfectly free to express their dislike of an album without being called a hater . Accept that people have different opinions to yours some of the time , and that its not a personal attack on you if they do . b) some people on the net who express opinions like "Prince should retire " or "Prince.org is still full of stupidity then " are often just baiters who are looking to get a reaction from people to pass the time . These people may be genuine fans too , but when they express opinions such as that its purely to get a response , as others have said just ignore them . The moderators on the org do their level best to remove any obvious attempts at flamebait anyway , but some people choose their words carefully though so they can bait people without breaking the rules , all we can do is ignore their attempts at attention seeking . c) Some people on the org and the net in general basically dont want to express any good opinion about albums or anything they like , they'd much rather hunt out threads on things they dislike and add their 2 cents in the most sarcastic or derisory way possible , its just the way they choose to be . On the org specifically theres been people who are quite happy to contribute to any and every thread going on say NPS or Rave declaring its mediocrity but they rarely if ever will be found on a thread for Parade or Sign O The Times declaring how much they love them , basically they think its uncool to show appreciation for stuff they love , thats too "fammy" you see , they'd much rather point and laugh at stuff they hate and the people who like that stuff and try and push forward some pathetic facade of being a "cool hater" . Personally I find it sad that people don't want to express their opinions on everything , whether it be be good or bad , if youre like that then youre only showing half of yourself , and its not a pretty side , but if its what you fell the need to do , just go on with your bad selves I guess .
