Underrated songs pre 1999.

- In love
- Just as Long as We're Together
- Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad
- Private Joy
- Uptown

And one of my favorite prince songs:
- Do It All Night. I just love these songs especially Do It All Night. Why isn't it considerad a classic? Atleast as good as 1999 I think.

Anyone else agrees that these songs are underrated?

Ronnie Talk 2 Russia, Sister, and Jack U Off are the three greatest songs in the Prince canon. All pre-1999, and all monsterously under-rated.

I agree with all your choices though Uptown definetly gets the praise it deserves but I wholeheartedly agree with Do It All Night. That song is one of the few songs that gets criticized on the Dirty Mond album and I don't see why. It's a great kickass dance song that should get more props than it does. It always makes me biggrin .

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I always get annoyed Ronnie Talk To Russia or Annie Christian get criticised.

At the time people said Prince was being TOO POLITICAL.

No he was just speaking his mind. Having an opinion.

I particularly like Annie Christian because it seems to sum up mass hysteria in our culture. It's an eerie song.
Shut up already, damn.

Big ol' co-sign.

I think most of the Prince is underrated, as well. Especially When We're Dancing Close and Slow.

"Just as Long as We're Together" -- anything this fun should be spread around
"When We're Dancing Close & Slow" -- many don't know what to make of this, but i do!
"It's Gonna Be Lonely" -- yeah, some of us know it for what it is, but still under-rated
"Do It All Night" -- an early version of Prince's "MPLS Sound"
"Annie Christian" -- punk attitude and lyrics -- great synths -- cool voice

My guess why Do It All Night isn't a classic is because it sounds like a remix of I Feel 4 U.

"Do It All Night" is one of his most driving grooves pre-1999...It's as if Prince was channeling Steely Dan and decided to funk and dirty it up...And the bassline was the truth...

With You...shuld have been a slow burning Torch song of 1979-1980.

If released as a single, no 1 it would have been.
Luminous beings are we...not this crude matter.

Agree with both of you.For some reason, many people think of "Do It All Night" as filler and I can't undertand why. It's one of his funkiest jams ever!

For ages my all time favourite Prince song was "With You".

I never hear it mentioned and I think it's truly under-rated.

A beautiful song.

Without a doubt, "With You". If REO Speedwagon or Journey had cut this, man oh man, it would have been a super hit. Should have been one for P as well.

Yes. Glad that you brought up especially "In Love", that's criminally underrated. Folks here do regularily talk about "Uptown" or "Private Joy" here, but "In Love" and "Do It All Night" are hardly ever mentioned. They're fantastic indeed!
