kygermo said: Lovesexy is the bomb because he was taking a huge creative risk at the time. However, the general public didnt get it (oh, but they certainly got glam rock at the time), and it failed big-time in the US. In my opinion, i feel that because it flopped, it brought a mystique to the record. Not many artists at the time had the balls to release a one track full length record, as well as an over-the-fu**ing-top tour (which still amazes me every time i watch the Dortmund show).
Lovesexy certainly isnt the most accessable record hes released, but i think its the line between hard-core prince lovers, and mediocre prince fans. It seperates the men from the boys, if you catch my drift. But seriously, how does anyone not like "Alphabet St."? A man cannot be judged by one album alone and nor can a fan.

I'm just curious because to me these typify great Prince songs. They're raw, edgy and with depth and meaning. Maybe not polished and pretty but heartfelt and honest. The song on this album seem to be about something real. Confusion over your identy and place in the world, trying to get over a relationship, understanding sex and spirituality. For me it's a man trying to work things out in his head and through his music. Some of this may be true but don't the songs have to enjoyable to the listener aswell to make a 'classic' album? Too many average songs lyrically and musically: Glam Slam, Dance On, When 2 R in Love, Positivity, I Wish U Heaven. In the days of 9 songs to an album that about half that's average at best. Having said all that - I'm not going to go as far as saying he should never have released it - just not my cup of tea. [Edited 1/10/06 7:00am]

Musicology! The song is so dreary-I heard someone on here describe it as Prince on autopilot and I think that is the best way to describe it. He could've made much better use of the word... Prince says my name in one of his songs. In Little Red Corvette, he says, "Liz is on the verge of being obscene" Ha, ha, just kidding. But seriously.

By virtue of that one dumb move, one of his best songs ever Anastesia got lost. People like to be able to pick and choose which cuts on an album they want to hear. Dont' force me to listen to the whole darn thing! Artistic freedom is one thing and consumer freedom is another...

Fine then I'll say it. Lovesexy's overrated (much like TRC). Buncha average tunes and a couple of classics. A nice effort with a cool/avant garde vibe that alot of people here get into, but to me, it's just a'ight. . [Edited 1/10/06 10:57am]

Nah, I disagree. I loved Lovesexy at first, then quickly got tired of it. Yes, but you just said yourself, you LOVED it at one point!

I think Lovesexy means more to those who listened to it when it came out.
I think he fucks up perfectly good songs at the beginning sometimes like: Interactive--Are You Ready?! Slave--Eeeh Hee? The Flow--CONTRADICTION MY PREDICTION!!! Come--the poetry at the begining of half the songs Family Name--the beginning's interesting once or twice Check this song out at:

Not really. Bought it first day. Hid the cover from my parents. Saw the concert. Really wanted to love it. Overall album experience, 3 stars.

What I mean is that those who think of it as some mystical experience were more likely the ones who bought it when it came out. Doesn't mean that you had to like it or that younger folks couldn't get into it today. [Edited 1/10/06 15:00pm] Check this song out at:
