Prince Can't Act Is there anyone at this fan site that actually thinks P can act?
I know he can be called an actor because he's been in movies, but the "Where's the Beef" lady could also be called an actor. If so, what movie? and Why? I know he is a interesting person, but it just does not translate to his acting ability. For me, a great actor/actress is someone who draws you into there story. You forget your watching someone act. They make you feel human emotions through there acting. The closest P has ever come for me was PRain during the emotional scenes (anger, crying, etc.). I recently watched it again (first time in 20 years) and realised just how bad the acting was in the movie.

Hm, never felt his acting in Purple Rain unbearable. I think I have seen "professional" actors doing worse.
But no chance to match Bowie

i don't know; i think if he starred in some better movies with some better lines, we'd think differently

I don't know.... I really like the whimsical way in which he casts out the line, "2 Fine, huh?" in Graffiti Bridge and the "Mirror, mirror seventeenfold..." bit in UTCM.
I agree with Snap, it would be nice to see Prince speak someone else's lines and take someone else's direction ( A little like PR), I think he would surprise some people.

I'm not sure it's just the material that's missing. It's diffucult to imagine P having the range to play outside of himself. What roles would he play? Or be good in? A leading man? Try to imagine him in a role that doesn't have a musical performance.

Prince is great at playing Prince. I don't think he takes acting as seriously as he does his own process of creating characters, which may seem like the same thing but I really don't think is.

He can barely portray himself in a movie so he can hardly act like anyone else. Prince is a super talented musician though! 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

As Per Nilson said, it's not so much that Prince can't act, he just doesn't play characters that are very likeable.

DVD, they never expected this to be as big as it got - they just thought they were gonna be in a movie that talked about this little group that "had a thing goin' on". Did the Beatles ever really make good actors in their movies, also? Besides, it was also said that this was the first time for many of these people to be on film, so for a first go, I couldn't imagine a more excellent debut. IMHO.

Yes, it's unbelievably . As for UTCM that was always horrible. Even before it was put on film! Graffitti Bridge? I brought a friend of mine to this movie, he said it was so bad that he had to leave. I wanted to watch it for the music portions. About half way through, he could not stand another second (actually I believe it was the quiet scene under the bridge), he stood straight up out of his seat, proclaimed to all 18 people in the theater that he was a movie reviewer and he wanted to share his review! He paused just the right amount of time, and in complete silence farted very loudly then stormed out. Till this day, I do not remember if the tears in my eyes were from laughing so hard, the smell or the movie.

The only thing to say about Prince as an actor is that he's a great musician! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I don't think Prince's acting is that bad so much as his movies have just sucked. He isn't good, either, but he was never so bad that he was distracting. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

And if it was just "luck" that PRain became so big. Then why the hell make UTCM. I think the Wyoming theater was a perfect red carpet venue. Even the tumble weeds got out of town.

He's not an actor. He coulda done anything Keanu Reeves did though.
"I know Kung-fu." That wouldn't have been too hard for him to do. I'm kidding, of course.

Yes, that was one of his more usefull talents. It was not the only time he pulled that proverbial finger. I remember another incident in line at a grocery store. I believe it was a genetic gift. Completely agree. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I think he does okay in Purple Rain, especially the angry/emotional scenes. He does better than most of the rest of them anyway.
I cant see him playing anyone else other than Prince or a Prince-like (Tricky) character. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Love The Man . But, I agree 100%. I do have a VHS of "Under The Cherry Moon" only because I am a Prince fan. Because the movie was and still is terrible.

Ur right, it is about his ASS!!
So, his entire movie career is based on the fact that his Forte' is that he has a funny ass? I don't remember him telling jokes out his ass ( miss that during the lake scence with appolonia) maybe it was an extra on the DVD Relase. How in the hell was he funny in that movie? UTCM. I think the voices and faces they made were more of an inside joke related to a bunch of frineds with money to spend on making a movie. That's fine but, don't be surprised when your movies tank commercially and critically. Especially. Bridge
