Could 'Te Amo Corazon' be a test?... ...or a feeler, if you will. Think about it, if Prince had all the tracks planned out for the next CD, before releasing 'Te Amo Corazon', and lets say the album originally had a 'Te Amo' flavor to it. Well, the single does'nt appear to be getting alot of attention. With his vault of music, and his ability to turn out new songs faster than it takes me to eat my breakfast, he could totally change the track list from now to spring.
Who knows for sure. We'll probably never know. I like the single, because I admire Prince, but the song does'nt hit me the way other songs have. You know that feeling, when a song revs you up, and you look forward to getting out of work, and blasting it in your car. Everyone has different taste, and I'm happy for those that are getting that great feeling from this song. I'm sure there will be some cuts off '3121' that'll get me, as is the case for most of his albums.

I've thought about it ... and I'm reminded of the only material thing that Prince has said about the album when asked at the press conference: namely, that the sound of "Te Amo Corazon" is not representative of the album. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

i really hope so... this song is a total throwaway.
prince is a revolutionary, i think gloria estefan would even pass on this crap. i truly hope that he sees the cold shoulder we've given this song, drop it from the album and drop something that blows us away.... if not, i will still be thrilled to put on the older stuff, but my fingers are crossed that we will get something extraordinary, despite this early bump in the road....

if the release of this single is a small part of some greater brilliant plan for marketing the next album, i sure can't figure it out.
i don't mind the song, but it's hardly an attention grabber.

The song is not bad but I won't be sad or mad if it's not on the album. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This song doesnt do anything for me as a sneak peak unlike the first track i heard from musicology but its early days and it could just be a commercial joint for the masses with a 10 second attention span.

One man's sped up, funky, innovative and party voice is another man's annoyance. Idea! Want to see the shit hit the fan. I dare anybody to post a thread aobut the voice on SOTT. Just for fun. The responses would be violent.

No.
I think Universal may have selected it in an attempt to capitalize on the Christmas ballads market. It was obviously rush-released as there is no B-side on the single. In addition, the song came with a beautiful, big name promo video attatched to it. Whatever I like the song. However, I agree that it is a somewhat 'low key' song to introduce an album with.

There should have been a Christmas B-Side. "Te Amo Reindeer" The video with him in a little elf outfit. Would have snatched that up faster than the last cupcake at a weightloss center. In this highly PC world, my apologies to the vertically and gravity challenged. Bakers and reindeer. Oh, and owners of weightloss centers. You're doing God's work.

When I first listened to this song, I was really hoping I would like it. After playing it like fifty times on MSN, I came to the conclusion that it (in my opinion) sucks. I was relieved to learn that the song did not represent the material of 3121 - especially after reading somewhere (wish I could remember) that it was a rebirth of the Classic Prince. _________________________________________

Typically Prince has always released the best song on the lp first.

clearly it's not about the single. maybe it was rush-released to call attention to p's deal with universal, and maybe the other advantage was to get the video out there, since it could possibly be part of a larger video project (a film? a video album dvd to accompany '3121'? none of the above? ). the single seems as if it's just a formality - something to put him back in circulation to some extent until the machine creaks into motion next spring...prince suggests the weakest song and they release a barebones single in stores? it seems more about the "event" of it all than it does about the quality of the product.
just a thought. | |

I thought it was interesting that during the press conference Prince made a point of saying that this single is not indicative of how the rest of the album will sound. To GOD be the Glory!

Yeah, and I can't help but think this statement had to do with the lack of enthusiasm by the fans. Or maybe he doesn't follow up on what peeps on these sites have to say. Maybe it's smart not to release a heavy hitter single, with the album not being released until spring. I'd much rather approach this unreleased album with lowered xpectations, and then get kicked in the ass when the album is released. Imagine, instead of 'Te Amo Corazon', he had released something mind blowing, revolutionary, the "When The Doves Cry" of this decade, and then 4 months slowly drift by, as we all finally open up the new 3121, shaking with intense enthusiasm, and what's this first track? Hmmmm...Te Amo...how do you pronounce that? Well I'll just have to give it a listen. Xpectations can very much alter an xperience.

Sometimes test's seem strate forward, but in reality each question posesed is inturpeted as such not to be a strate forward responce. I don't think you therefore would be able to judge such a matter. However, I find that idea or it being a "test" silly. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I'm sure since it's his art, he doesn't conciously think,"Oh, yes, I'll release this because I'm sure alot of the fans will not be impressed with it". He probably releases it because he's very proud of it, and wants to show it off. However, I still wonder if P would change a whole track list between now and spring, based on general reactions to the first single.

I don't know if it was Universal records or not making the choice, but it seems to me that the person making the choice thought it was a suitable mitigating factor to go forward with release minus a b-side. Maybe for someone else but not Prince for christs sakes. With all due respect, my opinion is that the song sounds like a guy that has been married a very long time and forgot what hot Princely passion is wrote the song.It happens to all of us when we get our wing s clipped. The young ones will understand in a few years..... Prince, if you read this baby don't be mad at me, I'm in the same boat as you. xxx - V Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.
