Irresistible Bitch Just wanted to remind everyone about this little sucker! If you haven't listened to it for some time, do it now, it's gotta be one of his tightest jams ever.
A great example of his style on the bass, too. Does he slap it? I can't really make it out. [Edited 12/27/05 11:31am]

Yes it's a classic.
One of the best and more people in the world should know about songs like this. That and "Shockadelica" and "Superfunkycalifragisexy" and "Erotic City".... Shut up already, damn.

BTW, I only know the version from the Hits Set (and the outtake one). Is there a longer version than this one?

There is a 12" Version - US Maxi Single - Also on German 12" It is on the B-Side of Let's Pretend We're married - Side A - Let's Pretend We're Married (7:20) Side B - Irressistible Bitch (4:11)

Seems like the version on the Hits/B-Sides! No need to track that down then, though I'd love to have a 10+ minutes version of that groove!

LOVE IT!!!!
It was the Prince song that I got into the most trouble for listening to. I actually think Prince owes me a cassette player to compensate for all the ones I had confiscated because of "Irresistible Bitch"!

It's on my compilation of all time favourite Prince songs!!!
Cool jam!!! | |

It's a fun song but kind of silly. Not one of his better songs.
I put it up there with "Illusion, Pimp, and Cliterous".

Well, as an actual song of course, it's not special. Chord changes and all that. But that's not what it's trying to be anyway. It's just a cool, tight little jam with attitude.

Irresistible Bitch is the perfect Prince song. From the first seconds to the memorable fade, there is not one note that doesn't belong there. It's like a fine racetrack horse, all muscles and no fat. Every instrument is played with the utmost conviction, especially the drums and the bass. Not too many know about it outside the fan community because it was a b side and of course the word "bitch" made it less than marketable at the time it was released, but to me this is not only a good song but a classic recording that far more people should know.
So... I like it! [Edited 12/29/05 8:18am]

There is a 12" Version - US Maxi Single - Also on German 12" It's the same version. There is not even an edit. As far as I know all officially released version of the studio version are the same. Best version is of course on the B-sides album. I also love the demo medley with Feel U Up, as both songs are so lovingly basic and synthi. [Edited 12/28/05 8:10am]

Yeah, back in the day when I was mixing songs with cassettes for people, I frequently mixed Irresistible Bitch with Lady Cab Driver and the Cloreen Baconskin Tricky beat "you just fat & old." The 3 beats meshed well as I sigued into Movie Star.

Wendy and Lisa's vocals are to die for on this track. Too funky. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Originally intented for The Time, I'm glad P kept this one for himself. Just like Lady Cab Driver, his drumming and bass playing is high up in the mix which really gives it that bang. Used to wear this out when it first hit. I especially dig the beginning with the little backwards vocal track over the drumsticks. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

Could you say anything on the bass playing? It's similar in style to Cloreen Bacon Skin, IIRC. A very distinctive way of playing, IMO. Does he slap? I can't really make it out.

Is this the first example of Prince "rapping?" (I know it's not rap in the traditional sense, but it's almost there)
Anyway, great little underappreciated song. Would be good to hear this in nightclubs as I think it would sound relevant next to a lot of today's retro sounding music. Put yourself on the worldwide org map! www.frappr.com/princeorg

Referring to Hip Hop, Prince once mentioned that he did it as early as 1982 with Irresistible Bitch. So I guess it kind of is the prototype for his rapping. Although I think he wouldn't call it rapping anyway. [Edited 12/29/05 8:29am]

The 12 Inch is the same version as the 45, unless there is an extended version on an import somewhere that I don't know about. Andy is a four letter word.
