Man O' War,I Love You But Don't Trust You Anymore

This question is for the Rave haters. What is wrong with these two songs? Prince at his most intimate and sincere as far as slow songs go. At least to me. It's almost enough to make you feel for him, which has never been easy for many of his fans, to relate on that level. He denies cheating on his lover in Man O' War, she won't accept it and it kills him. Moving. I wonder how true though.

I don't care for Rave. Those 2 songs are my favorites from the album along with tangerine, sun moon stars, and pretty man. Man O War was too good for the album.
Have always loved the piano solos. "God", "How Come U Don't Call" etc.

there's nothing wrong with those two songs. in fact, i would go so far
as to say that "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore" is among the ten
best songs he wrote in the 1990's.

it's not like the entire album sucks. i hate it, yes, but just 'cause
it was such a dud after Prince himself kept trumpeting it as the real
new Sign O The Times.

could have been so much more because half of the song on it are really
good. (Rave/Don'tTrustU/Tangerine/ManOwar/StrangeButTrue/PrettyMan).

I love Rave. Ya know the funny thing about these two songs is, it's weird to get a glimpse into Princes hurt ego. It's hard to imagine him being the heartbreakee instead of the heartbreaker. That's one of the reason's I like these 2 songs in particular.....it makes you think maybe he IS human afterall.....maybe he does have a heart!

I don't understand why so many fans dislike Rave, I think it's an outstanding album, and I'm as mainstream as a PRINCE FAN can get, so I don't see why other more experimental fans don't like it, if I do. I dunno.....

I'll never forget watching Prince wipe tears from his eyes at the second show of the second Celebration. Totally beautiful moment.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

I like "Man O War" very much. It is better than any of the slow ones on Musicology. But "I love U but..."is not as good as it should have been. It is something by the way he sings it. As in "I can`t make U love me" and "Dreaming about you" he breaks into his falsetto in a way that it sometimes sounds that he has trouble with balancing his voice. And that ruins those songs to me.
I believe that sex is a beautiful thing between two people. Between five, it's fantastic.

Noway Norwayman

"Call My Name" is absolutley one of his most gorgeous songs. "On The Couch" is killer. Like em both more than Man O. Call My Name is a distant 2nd to "Adore" for me.

I'm glad you're bringing this up. I love "I love you". It is so tender and he does seem resigned to the way it feels to be snubbed and powerless to change things.

Makes me hope he realizes what he has done to so many women back when he was a 'ho.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

Rave was an ok CD, I think ppl didn't get into because it was too clean cut, ppl R waiting for something more edgy from the king of edgy. Same for Musicology! And will probably be the same 4 3121. Back in the day P gave the best of both worlds (Sin & Salvation). Nowadays he's just about the positivity and I guess that's cool (If Ur Kirk Franklin)

oh please, there is no way for an artist to release something that doesn't sound like what they've done before. Everyone has there own artistic voice, listen to michael or bruce or whoever and you'll hear alot of ideas rehashed, it's natural and inevitable.

i respectfully disagree...theres a difference from rehashing ideas and repeating one's self..IMHO.

A mish-mash of the original and the remix CD would've been hot.

How's this...?

Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic
Undisputed (Moneyappolis mix)
The Greatest Romance
Strange But True
The Sun, The Moon & Stars
I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore
Beautiful Strange
Silly Game
Wherever U Go Whatever U Do

Hot Wit U should never, never, never seen the light of day. Nor should the original version of Undisputed. The remix version however is killer!

"I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore" is the only decent track on "Rave" in my opinion. Problem is I can't listen to it because the first time I heard it it struck such a chord with me as it echoed how I was feeling about a relationship at the time and it actually hurt to listen to it. Good song though.

yup, that's how i see it exactly. and what was he thinking, holding
out "Beautiful Strange" on the regular release? he should have made
that one available and taken off "Winding Road" for instance.

then, after a couple more removals/additions it would have stood up
quite nicely among his good/better albums.

but he decided to make it a poopfest with a few excellent song that
got lost in the lameness of the rest (see NPS for previous effort).

I happen to like most of this CD.
My favorites are: Man O' War
I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore
Silly Game
Pretty Man
Hot Wit' U
Despite all the criticism this album gets, I still like it.
