How would we hear Prince ballads if it was not for his bad boy image?

Are they beautiful ballads or do we only hear them as beautiful, comparing them against his more controvercial songs.

Have you ever wondered where ballads like 'Adore', 'Sometimes it snows it april' would be if it were not for the bad boy image Prince projected back in the day?

I was listening to a few CDs the other day and after listening to a few "naughty" songs, I listened to a few ballads. I wondered where these songs would have been or where Prince would have been as a musician if it were not for him being a bad boy. Ya know, without the MF, Shit, (Sex) lyrics etc etc.

Do you think he would be the musicial "genious" he is without the image he sold?

After "For You" and "Prince" received only minor successes, Prince knew that if he was to really make it, he was going to have to shock and awe the masses. He knew that he was going to have to push the envelope over the edge and he did, very well I might add.

Maybe a little too well even, because now here we are 20 something odd years later and some folks just can't let it go. Prince shocked us! Prince rocked us! All while making us think we were part of the "New Breed". Individuals that were free to be whomever we wanted be and free to do whatever we wanted to do! He was the poster child for folks who felt they just didn't "fit in".

Many people only got interested in Prince because of his "badboy image", they should have taken the time to actually "listen" to what the man has been saying all along and perhaps they wouldn't be feeling so lost and let down by his current image. wink
