Stevie Ray Vaughn or Prince

Choose the better one?

Really though, is there even any room for comparison between the two?

I love both. Great musicians. But SRV was more influential in the Guitar world. Prince was more influential as a songwriter.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was probably the best guitar player that ever lived. PERIOD

It's like comparing apples and oranges...

Although, Prince has had some moments where I'm like eek ... you really can't compare the two.

I gotta agree with you both FiveFoot and Gustavo. You both make very good points. Stevie Ray is absolutly amazing. I listen to his music almost every day, and he's one of the few musicians I can actually listen to over and over and put a big smile on my face with amazement. There are some songs, with some awsum guitar solos that when I listen to them, my heart starts pumping and I start breathing hard . lol

This one is not even close but it's two questions...

As an all around performer...Prince. He does too much and made hugely influential albums that crossed all kinds of musical barriors.
As a guitarist-SRV by a mile.

PURPLE RAIN
PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION
Warner Bros. The spirit of Jimi Hendrix must surely smile down on Prince Rogers Nelson. Like Hendrix, Prince seems to have tapped into some extraterrestrial musical dimension where black and white styles are merely different aspects of the same funky thing.
The Hendrix connection is made overt here with the screaming guitar coda that ends "Let's Go Crazy," with the manic burst that opens "When Doves Cry" and in the title song, a space ballad that recalls "Angel" with its soaring guitar leads and a very Hendrixian lyrical tinge ("It's time we all reach out for something new -- that means you, too"). Like Jimi, Prince writes his own rules. Some of his effects are singularly striking - note that eerie, atonal synthesizer touches that creep in at the end of "The Beautiful Ones" and the otherworldly backward-vocal montage in the frankly salacious "Darling Nikki" -- and his vocals continue to be among the most adventurous and accomplished on the current scene.
Anyone partial to great creators should own this record. Like Jimi , Prince is an original; but apart from that, he's like no one else.

The Influence of Jimmy Hendrix
1. Eric Clapton & Stevie Ray Vaughan record Little Wing
Personally, I feel that Stevie Ray Vaughan was unquestionably the only artist who could emulate Hendrix's guitar pyrotechnics to the point where, if Stevie wanted, they were indistinguishable. Stevie's live version of the song "Voodoo Chile" could actually transport you back in time and by closing your eyes you would swear that Hendrix was on stage. Being inspired by Hendrix musically, as well as, by the faith that the legendary producer John Hammond had for his musical capabilities, Stevie was willing to expand himself and incorporate his own style into Hendrix's ballad. Stevie's interpretation of "Little Wing" actually shows a mixed up variety of influences, from jazz, to blues, to Hendrix. (also edited to stay centered on topic...i miss him rose )
1. SOURCE: Liner notes from the album "The sky is crying" The book; "Kiss the sky" on Jimi Hendrix Notes from Clapton's boxed set "Crossroads"
RECORDED: February 26, 1995
ROCK NOTES: Copyright, 1995, James Barton

In conclusion: for me there is no answer. There is a duality in their sounds, they shared the same muse, i.e. Jimi Hendrix.
i luv them both....

Stevie Ray Vaughan's sound is seasoned with a core of country-blues soul. His musical sound for me is like a glass of "Southern Comfort" without the hangover. His style of guitar rifts is like riding on a rollercoaster. I want to ride again and again.
Prince's style of playing is exhilarating. His stage presentation is awesome.
He is so totally uninhibited and seems to become one with his guitar playing from his total body, mind, soul and spirit. On stage, this man becomes a "GIANT."

good question... typing hi catwoman ...Smile 2 you... wave
