I know nothing of the sport, but 1-0 hardly seems like an ass kicking. Also as I am to understand didn't Germany only muster 5 shots on goal while America had 10.

Kicked our asses? Oh please! A 1-0 win is not exactly kicking ass. Especially considering how Germany got the winning goal.
Yes..the USA did excellent for a bunch of rookies. Next time we'll challenge you guys to a game of baseball or basketball. Talk about an ass kicking.  | |

I was cheering for Germany, but based on today's performance ... there was no "asskicking" of any kind. The USA played a great game and go home with their pride intact - they had a great tournament. | |

It's just as well that the US lost..
Because I WOULD HAVE TALKED SHIT & BRAGGED NON-STOP FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS. BELIEVE that. Germany was the better team today, at least good enough to win, like they were SUPPOSED to do. The US team IS young, but in 4 years.. you never know! Just THINK of how the US would dominate this sport (too) if we had even 1 or 2 of our best athletes (who of course play other sports here) on the pitch.. yeah, I look forward to the day when I'll be able to say (=BRAG) that "yeah, we won the World Cup, & soccer isn't even our best sport- it's maybe, barely in the top 10 of US sports!" My European friends would NEVER hear the end of it!!!
