Friday Orpheum show moved NPGMC: Xenophobia Update - Friday
Due 2 logistical problems with the crew getting the gear up and then back 2 Paisley Park, the show at The Orpheum Theatre on Friday night is being moved back 2 Paisley Park. We will honor all tickets already purchased from Ticketmaster 4 the Friday night show at Paisley Park. Plans r underway as we speak 2 accomodate everyone. Sorry 4 any inconvenience. Many issues:
1. If these "plans" that "r underway" are no different than accommodations for people during the rest of the week, then these Orpheum shows (who knows what will happen to Thursday's show) will indeed look like a ploy to pry money away from members who didn't buy passes, as well as members of the general public. And the "sold out" thing just doesn't hold water. 2. How can people who paid upwards of $150 be accommodated at Paisley Park as comfortably as seating in a theater? 3. How will members receive priority seating/admission at this event? Two lines? That soundstage is big but not as big as a theater that seats 2,000 people. 4. How many tickets were sold? Can anyone figure out an estimate based on what kind of tickets remain still available? 5. How difficult is it to get the gear back to Paisley in time for soundchecking/rehearsing Saturday's show, which being billed as a "pajama party" promises to start well into the night/morning? Unless something is/was being planned for Friday night after the "concert" proper. 6. Why would logistical problems affect the Friday show but not the Wednesday show, which would seem to be more logistically challenging since it is sandwiched between two nights at Paisley? 7. If it were the Sheila E. show, those tickets would have gone in seconds. On the flipside: 1. Perhaps the gear does need to be back at Paisley as soon as possible for Saturday's show... or maybe some late night jamming on Friday. 2. One can only wish at this point for some miraculous organizational and logistical genius to be at work at Paisley Park to accommodate ticket holders and pass holders in a way that will be fair to everyone involved. Mhm mhm mhm (shaking head back and forth). NuPower, I agree completely
-The Orpheum venue site says seats approx 2300 ppl. -When I bought tix, for $271 mind you, for the Orpheum show, it took me about 20 mins to get them. I got 2 balcny seats for the $125 price(near front) which means in about an hour, based on the available seats, they would've sold close to 1500 tix or more. That's a low estimate -I went the 1st year, there's no way pp can hold 1500 or more people. -Unless he holds the concert outside--"aint no way". --------------------

-my friends in minneapolis said they hadn't seen any ads for this show at all. I had to tell them about the concert.
-they could still sell it out with 1 or 2 local ads. --------------------

Such cynicism from all of you! Does anyone really feel that these last minute changes were decided on a whim? Did I actually read that some feel the move back and forth from Paisley to the Orpheum then back to Paisley was an effort to make more money from members who didn't buy weeklong passes? With "fans" like these, who needs actual detractors? How sad!
Others believe he's moving it back to Paisley because of inadequate ticket sales? I doubt it. Didn't one post here indicate that they probably sold more than 1500 tickets in the first hour alone? Why do people here at the org always try to use ticket sales (or record sales) to invalidate the effort that Prince puts into his music, or in this case, the Celebration? Ridiculous org-whiners! In fact, the real concern will likely be that too many tickets were sold for a performance that will now be held at Paisley. For that, I imagine that Prince is not pleased. You see, I actually believe that he performs his music with the hope and expectation that guests enjoy themselves. I desperately hope that Prince never visits this site! It's embarrassing at times. Someday I'd like to go to a Celebration. Hopefully he won't stop these special weeklong parties because of the ingrates who conspire to complain about every imperfect detail. I use to love Prince dearly and respect him as a person and a musician. Well let me tell you for the last two weeks I have been very disappointed in him and tonight I am fed up with him.
I have NO respect left for this man at all. I mean he is greedy, that is SO obvious from all of the changes during the last week. I for one do NOT believe this has anything to do with logistical problems. I agree with LCD, logistical problems, MY ASS!! Sorry, but I am pissed. What kind of noise is this. His plan backfired and he didn't sell as many tickets as he wanted so now lets move it back to Paisley. Damn people wake up and smell the coffee, I tried to tell you this a week ago. First of all this Celebration wall promoted as MEMBERS ONLY. Therefore, if anyone wanted to go, you had to pay $100 to join the club if you were not a member already. Then we were asked HOW MUCH WOULD WE PAY FOR 7 NIGHTS OF PRINCE PERFROMING AT PAISLEY PARK. We answered that email, and I think the NPGMC should have had a price already set for a ticket instead of asking us. That was just another ploy to see the top dollar we would pay. Then a week or so before the Celebration he decides to move two nights to the Orpheum due to popular demand, Maceo and Musique. But then neither of those artists were billed at the Orpheum shows, ONLY PRINCE. So Prince then decided he wanted to make more money and would sell tickets to these shows for $88-$125 each. Also, he wants to sell aditional day and evening passes to ANYONE that shows up. So forget the people that might have orginially paid $100 to join the club just to go to the Celebration right? PRINCE YOU NEED TO WAKE UP TOO!!! You do NOT respect your fans at all, because if you did you would not pull this sort of stuff. Also, whoever is running this Celebration is NOT doing a good job at all. This has been very UNORGANIZED and UNPROFESSIONAL! Flame away if you want. But at least I said exactly what I think and feel.

Thank you Azure. It's not that I disapprove of it being moved back to Paisley. I disapprove of his tactics and he is NOT an honest man at this point. That is my opinion, he really does need to do so deep soul searchin. I hope he never goes broke, because the almighty dollar sure is something he is very fond of.
I'd rather be poor and honest, then greedy and and NOT being able to see the truth or tell the honest truth. What about the people that paid $125 for the Orpheum concert and expected to sit and be comfortable. I mean $125 for ONE Paisley concert sounds a bit much. If he was a decent honest man, he would refund the $125 or whatever amount was paid for the Orpheum tickets and admit those people into Paisely Park Friday night for $35 each. This is how it breaks down for each of the 7 nights at PP for the purchase of one $250 ticket. So he scammed the fans that really wanted to go and missed out on purchasing a ticket. Now they paid $125 to go into Paisley? Does this sound right? I don't think so. [This message was edited Wed Jun 19 20:21:39 PDT 2002 by YoungandBeautiful]

Ex-Moderator | I mainly feel sorry for people who paid $125 for a ticket for the Orpheum and they are now seeing a show at Paisley Park with no where to sit, and no guarantee their spot will be any better than someone who only paid for an $88 ticket. You know damn well the nightly "overflow" passes the rest of the nights of the celebration will not be this price. Living in Mpls and having seen him at the Park for free several times, there's no way in HELL I'd pay $125 to see him at the Park. No way. They better be offering at least partial refunds to those who spent that amount. It's ludicrous. |

This information should have been emailed to us since most of us hardly ever check the web site because it is never updated or when it is, it is updated with information that has nothing to pertaining to us members.
This was announced too late, too. Why was this "announced" a few hours before everyone is leaving to Minneapolis? (Maybe because he was hoping for more ticket sales , but what about the people who bought tickets for $88 getting in for the same price as the people that paid $125?) I am a person who likes a "plan of attack" and when I don't have one I am not a happy camper. I, as well as a lot of others, want to know what is happening this year. At least last year we had a good idea of what was scheduled each night. Can we honestly say we have any idea on what we have spent tons of money on besides the small-known fact that Prince is supposed to perform? We don't even have any real confirmation that our Celebration passes are there waiting for us and being purchased via PC, mistakes are bound to happen! What time will Prince be onstage? How long will each night last approximately? Prince is currently creating "last straws" with a lot of his fan/ms (trust me I hear them telling me this all the time) and he better dance and play his off or he is going to end up not being able to sell out anything because they won't want to spend their hard-earned cash on something or someone so unpredictable. I hope Prince reads this, too, because he needs to start correcting things before his fan/m base dwindles to nothing and they become unwilling to give him any second chances. Take it from me Prince, I know because they talk to me about their frustrations with you and wanting to just "give up" on you completely! Some people are already mad at him for his religious talks at concerts and now they are mad over the way we keep getting tossed around with the Celebration which is starting in HOURS! Prince!! Make your mind up and stick with it at all possible costs! We know you are spoiled and spontaneous but please wake up before you are not able to spoil yourself any longer! Your business decisions are your career! Once again I state that Prince needs to hire me if he wants to have a successful business which in his case directly correlates with his career. He would have to be willing to listen to me or whomever his business director is, too. Unless Prince decides to go for a degree in business I suggest he let someone (ME) make business-related suggestions and run the NPGMC since he is making the NPGMC the life vest to his career. Don't let it sink Prince, please.
