If you look in the recent issue of RollingStone with Eminem on the cover and turn to page 83...There's a new ad for the Corvette...It depicts a young lady stepping out of a red convertible Corvette wearing purple tight shimmering pants...(view of car and lady is from back)...to the lower left of the ad there's an overprint of a typed note that reads the following:

Little Red Corvette
Baby you're much 2 fast
(Yes U are) -



In small print at the bottom of ad it reads the following:

Universal Music Corp. on behalf of Controversy Music.

It sounds tastefully done and not cheesy. Didn't "Prince" write that and not "TAFKAP"?

Anyone know if there are any TV ads with the song being used. As much as i don't like any artists using songs for ads, it'd be cool to see what they came up with just the same.

Prince did write it, but if they put Prince on there , they prolly have to pay Warner Bros. instead...since they owned the rights to the song and his name back in those days...they might still own the rights to the name when affilliated with a song they still own...maybe...just maybe... And since They don't own rights to the symbol...That's how Prince can get paid for it...

It's not a music deal-he's still an independent artist.
Prince owns the publishing rights to his music(not the masters), when he signed a publishing deal with Universal about a yr ago-that only meant Universal will collect any publishing monies(any sheet music printed, lyrics printed, etc) owed to him, in exchange for a portion of the monies/profit. I think it has something to do with collecting user fees from radio stations too, but not really sure.

It's much easier for a large co to collect on these fees owed than a single artist, so it pays off for him in the end.

Chevy had to approach Prince, not WB, to allow the use of the LRC lyrics in their magazine ads.

Yup, the same ad was in both Ebony and Jet, I have a clip of each on my wall. I also wondered if Prince got paid for that. It's amazing how much of his material gets used by other artist and commercials. It would suck if he didn't get a penny of it! I mean, it's his work, his song, his music and lyrics.

The same ad is also in the issue of People w/Paul McCartney on the cover. Can't remember which soundcheck it was...either Columbus or Cleveland...but I recall Prince asking fams their feedback on giving Chevy permission to use Little Red Corvette for their anniversary campaign.

Its 20 years late to be promoting that.
