Te Amo Corazon
- Sounds like a great deal more passion and craftsmanship went into this than the utter commonplace of “SST” and “Brand New Orleans”. - Quite surprisingly -- given the preview of this song I heard -- contains a fairly challenging arrangement with a 30-second instrumental lead-in, lush with strings that instantly snap you back to the time and space of the opening orchestration of “Crystal Ball” and other 1986 offerings. Is that you Claire Fischer? - To me, the song, taken as a whole, most resembles a Latin cross-pollination of “Under the Cherry Moon” and “Dionne”. - And the song’s hook, which is also its title, is delivered with the restrained urgency of “Welcome to the Dawn”, with a melody that runs out quite beautifully, like that of a perpetually skipping stone across a lake, just aching for connection, for resolution. - On the 3rd repeat of the hook line, which changes from “te amo corazon” to “my heart, my heart, corazon”, Prince lets the melody open up more fully with 30 seconds of improvised singing, humming and scatting along to a guitar solo that sounds as if it were birthed in the soul sweat excreted from a 1970’s Hammond organ. - And during that solo is Prince playing with more than just his guitar? There’s definitely something going on there, it’s just much more subtle than he used to be. - Sounds like a track that played live could slowly give way to an anthem with a bleeding guitar solo that would hit you right in the chest. - Kind of challenging for most radio formats, but the universal appeal of the lyrics (not often the case with Prince) and the aching beauty of the hook just might keep people listening long enough to find this song’s full charms. Summation: The best, or near best of who Prince was in 1986 “Parade”-style, European-centric balladry mixed with the growth and maturity gleamed from exploratory projects such as “N.E.W.S.” Has the best chance of connecting with fans of “Parade” and “The Truth”, but hardly a simple rehash of either of those projects. This is quite fresh; showing subtle signs of both taking from his musical past and seamlessly adding in new layers from his musical present. Those looking for revolutionary freakiness will certainly not find it here. But those open to evolutionary growth in his ballad compositions just might. Brendan

Ok, I've heard it. First impressions.
Unmistakably Prince but utterly unlike anything he's done before - this is not your average Prince ballad. It's a Latin tinge I haven't heard before. The arrangement is unusual for him. His singing is a masterclass in restraint (think SST but better). The strings at the beginning must surely be Clare Fischer - I would hazard a guess that they are actually a sample from something recorded in 1986. A guitar solo unlike you've heard any from Prince before. Overall, I think, a quite beautiful song and much more interesting than some may have feared.

I loved it. Played it a bunch of times on my way to work this AM. Love the vocals, very relaxed feel. Beautiful melody and instrumentation. I always sorta disapprove of ballads as the first single, but I can see why this song was chosen. Good stuff.

Yahoo's Music Engine also has the song for download, so that's how I heard it.
Not only has Prince been listening to Sade, he also seems to have been listening to Bacharach of late. I instantly thought of Burt's latest album when I listened to Te Amo Corazon the full way through. It's a good song, but I don't know how I'll feel about it in the long run. The instrumentation, as always, is superb, and the arrangement is nice (if typical). His pronunciation is bad and distracting. I have a feeling I would have liked the song more if he took out the tag line and gave the song a different name.

Take this for what it is...a very good song. Shades of the past with Clare, and possibly of what's to come with the new record. Bring on 3121!!!!

Te Amo Corazon---
Basically, I think that this song accomplishes what it means to do. It's a lush little romantic groove. It's sweet, it's got a great arramgement, and it perfectly captures and describes a mood. Is it a good choice for the 1st single? No. However, the album doesn't come out until spring and , in the press release, this wasn't being heralded as a proper "single". My guess is that the video was fun to make, Salma is involved so they wanted to put the video out as a teaser. Anyways-it's all gravy to me and I enjoy the song. I like it. Better than S.S.T.
Always changing, always original. Take away the lyrics and it grooves like Money Don't Matter. I don't hate it like I thought I would. Would have liked to hear a little more guitar, like a Santana riff right in the middle. But don't hate until you hear it, then make a decision. It's a good sample of what's to come. I'm happy for now ---------------------------------
Funny and charming as usual

It perfectly fits how I feel about it. I would like to add that to me, it is just that; it's not really captivating... but then again, people here press their expectations on a song and most do not listen with an open mind. I like the Sade reference; it is just that; mellow and laid back. If people are in THAT state of mind (but most in this forum never are), then it's a nice little tune.
