Prince never did newjack.......... shame he didn't. I woulda loved a newjack album by him. Of course, prince being prince, it would sound a lil' different from the norm. Shame grace jones didn't either (after the excellent "7 day weekend" off the boomerang soundtrack)
Closest he got was on the full force like "my name is prince" (macho chants and all). Also, "the max" could pass in a newjack club right?

there is an unreleased remix of alphabet st. that sounds very new jack 2 me. it's fun 2 throw on at parties. i know it's on the work but i'm not sure beyond that. Once upon a time in a haystack of despair; happiness sometimes hard to find, yeah.

Don't Say U Love Me was the only New Jack Swing that Prince did and it still remains unreleased. It's not a bad effort, it sounds pretty good for that style in the late 80's, early 90's. __________________________________________________

Bingo! It was originally meant for Paula Abdul. Really?!?!?! ...so what happened? Why did she end up with "U" ()instead? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Go figure. U wasn't written for Paula Abdul, it dates back to the 1979 Rebels project. And Don't Say U Love Me WAS for Martika's 'Martika's Kitchen' album.

Per Nilsen's documentary states P wrote it with Abdul in mind for her Spellbound album. Martika got the song after it wasn't offered to Abdul. I'm Afronomical!

Per Nilsen's 'A Documentary' is very old, and although it was a brilliant source of info at the time, well over a decade ago, it's since been usurped by the authors own work, as well as that of Uptown themselves, showing much of their earlier work in 'A Documentary' to be erroneous. Well, your info is wrong about the origins of that song, plain and simple.

The song 'You', as it was originally entitled, was - as stated earlier - recorded back in 1979 for 'The Rebels' sessions.
Uptown's 'The Vault' confirms this and states that the version cut by Paula Abdul on her 1991 albim, 'Spellbound' was based on a re-recording of the song by Prince dating back to 1987. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

The Vault Having read Per Nilsen and Uptown's previous work, you should find them entertaining.
