"IT" - Absolute Classic

Having read everyone's comments about the song "Crystal Ball", I felt compelled to start the discussion about the song "IT" from Sign 'O' The Times.

This is the most mesmerising, heartfelt song I think Prince has ever written. The grainy production and drum sounds are truly the the work of a genius, and the repetition of 'doing it' are just recorded magic.

Prince can produce such amazing music at times, I have never come across any other artist that has such gems hidden away on their albums.

Anybody else feel this is a massive song?

Paul

Abso-blummin-lutely.

I always crank this one up when listening to Sign 'O' The Times. Although it never seems to make much difference due to the CD being set so low. wink

Feels so good it must be a crime, alright.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Yeah that song is really tha bomb. Especially the way he did IT on the Sign of the Times tour. The way Forever in my life goes on in to It. Damn I wish I was home so I could listen to it...!!!

But what is 'it'?
You can assume it is about sex, but he doesn't say so. Meaning that the song only is about sex, if you decide it is. Making your mind the dirt mind and not his.
Maybe it's about decorating roofing-tiles...

I think we all know what It is...he doens´t say it in the song but listening to the work of Prince you should have a clue. And listening to Prince and understanding him you´ve got to have a bit of a dirty mind. Anyone agrea?

Just like the 'Erotic City' discussion.
Does he sing: "We can FUNK untill the dawn' or 'We can FUCK untill the dawn'.
IMO he sings both.

I love the beat on it.

When he sung it live touring the D&P tour, I reached heaven.

'It' is a seriously good song which oozes sexuality and has some very dark musical undertones. Everything that a good song should be!

Read my profile...definately my favorite Prince song. To me there are a lot of great songs in the catalog, but there are only a few scant classics that never ever get dull... this is one!

Without starting yet another "what are your top 5 favorite Prince songs" topic...there is only few others that fall in to this catagory. Desire is another...in my opinion!

It is a song with few instrumnets, but it is perfect.

With so many emotion, the drum beat/sound is absolutly

fantastic, the guitar solo with is parallel screaming

in the beginning of the solo is perfect.

The song is a very great work from a very great musician.

I hope he will write more of this songs.

Peace and be wild

I always call it the "pin ball machine song".

If you listen twards the end, it sounds like a pin ball machine with the electric drums and all.

I knew a girl who got all crazy in the mood every time that song came on. If we were driving around in my car, she'd always fast forward through that song. One day I asked her why she did that and she said that if she let it play, she'd have me pull the car over and have to rape me.

Never heard a girl say that before.
Needless to say the next time I put masking tape over the console.

Oh, the joy's of a good Prince song.

Very interesting, as this was always my least favorite song on SOTT. I find it fascinating that so many people love it (no pun intended). I'm not flaming any of y'all that do dig the tune, I just always found it boring. I've always wished he would have put another tune in it's place, then the album would have been perfect.

Funny, to me its one of the weaker tracks too.

Although they all worked well on the album as a whole, I always felt Play in the sunshine, IT, and Gonna be a beautiful night were fillers, or at least, the newer songs on his mind that would not have made the album had he had time to reflect.

To me, IT was a poor mans When Doves Cry, with the beat being so simular.

I think the album would have been even better if IT was replaced with Shockadelica, Sunshine replaced with Good Love, and Beautiful night replaced with Crystal Ball.

IMHO!

IT really is a fantastic song. but i always regretted that the instrumental part was a bit short. could have been up to 10 minutes in my opinion...
